School Overview
The Newark School of Fashion & Design empowers students to manifest their creative style, pioneer new design innovations, and influence the world of fashion. The newly established school features courses that enable students to study the fashion figure, develop flat sketches, render textiles, experience the latest fashion industry software applications, and much more!
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
A New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in School Counselor .
Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform the essential functions of the job after reasonable accommodation is made for their known limitations. If the accommodation cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, such persons may not be eligible.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Visits feeding schools, provides information on school offerings, and assist students in selecting subjects.
- Plans and conducts on-going orientation activities for new students and their parents, beginning in September and continuing throughout the school year.
- Assists students in evaluating their abilities and interests, strengths, and weaknesses through use of records, tests, inventories, observations, consultations, and interviews.
- Assists school staff in interpretation and use of student records and tests; interprets them to students and parents.
- Studies student progress and counsels students individually and in groups concerning educational and career plans.
- Participates in conferences conducted by the Child Study Team.
- Organizes a program of career guidance.
- Disseminates career information through individual and group guidance sessions, in classroom settings, through bulletins, newsletters, and bulletin boards, using a wide variety of audio-visual materials.
- Conducts exit interviews with students who withdraw from school and makes referrals to appropriate alternatives, such as jobs, job placement agencies, and other educational and training programs.
- Participates in curriculum development by serving on curriculum committees and making suggestions for changes in curriculum or introduction of new courses.
- Works closely with admissions personnel in helping students to gain admission to college or other institutions for further education beyond high school.
- Assists students in obtaining financial aid for further education.
- Conducts student trips to industry and college admissions personnel
REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL
SALARY, TERMS & AFFILIATION
- Salary: $55,000 $ 103,091
- Employment Period: Ten (10) Months
- Union Affiliation: Newark Teachers Union (NTU)
*Salary subject to change pending NTU contract negotiations.
