    Director Co- Curricular Director Elementary and Secondary:

    The Newark Board of Education District Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Director/Assistant Director for co-curricular band related activities.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    New Jersey Standard Teacher's Certificate or valid Essex County Substitute Teacher's Certificate. Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program. Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band. Ability to implement policy and procedures. Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills. Must have current CPR/AED certification.

    BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1.Direct high school instrumental performers, such as marching band, orchestra, concert band, soloists, and ensembles.
    2. Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band.
    3. Provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL activities.
    4. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    5. Accompany and supervise students on/ off site and out-of-town trips.
    6. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
    7. Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment.
    8. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.
    9. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
    10. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

    SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT PERIOD

    Salary Range:
    Marching Band Director $7,000
    Assistant Marching Band Director $3,500
    Band Director $7,000
    Assistant Band Director $3,500
    Concerts $600
