Job Statement

The Food Service Van Driver was established for the purpose of transporting foods, supplies and/or equipment to designated sites and maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition.

  • Valid Washington State Drivers License and clean driving abstract

Working Conditions

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 20% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary and without notice. Depending upon individual assignments this position performs all or a combination of several of the following duties:
  • Assists in maintaining dry/cold storage inventory for the purpose of ensuring availability of items as needed
  • Checks orders for food items, supplies and/or equipment for accuracy for the purpose of delivering requested items to serving sites
  • Cleans and sanitizes transport carts and truck for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions and meeting health and safety requirements
  • Drives delivery vehicle (food, supplies, materials, equipment, etc) for the purpose of transporting to designated sites
  • Loads, transports, and unloads food items, supplies and/or equipment required for the provision of food service operations throughout the District (hot and cold food carts, packaged and perishable food, etc) for the purpose of delivering requested items to serving sites in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Maintains files and/or records (deposit receipts, bank deposit transport, etc) for the purpose of ensuring an up-to-date audit trail for compliance
  • Maintains food storage areas (rotating stock, frozen foods, shelves and merchandise, etc) for the purpose of maintaining an organized layout and safe work environment
  • Performs routine maintenance on vehicle (gas, oil, water, battery, windshield/lenses, clean
    inside/outside, report any problems, etc) for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition
  • Responds to questions for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the status of orders and/or deliveries
  • Unloads deliveries for the purpose of providing distributing shipment at assigned site locations and/or individuals
  • Conduct all work in a safe manner as specified by WISHA regulations and district rules and regulations
  • Working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others and operating within a define budget
  • Cover other positions when needed
Terms of Employment
  • 3.75 hours per day
  • Work Hours 6:00am - 9:45am
  • 190 Calendar (180 work days / 10 holidays)
  • 1 District Directed Day
  • Current Food Handlers Card
  • Criminal history clearance/fingerprinting (cost to applicant waived if currently in the OSPI database showing clearance within the last two years)
  • Performance of this job will be evaluated at least once annually
