Position Summary:

The Lead Teacher assures adherence to curriculum standards and proper IEP development and trains/mentors site teachers in research-based instructional strategies, academic rigor in the classrooms, problem solving techniques, and effective classroom management. The Lead Teacher also performs regular teacher duties such as planning, preparing and implementing the instructional process for each student within the classroom including, but not limited to; delivery of instruction, implementation of curriculum materials & educational software, and development of daily lesson plans & classroom schedule, which reflect state and school requirements as well the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the learner.

The position operates with oversight and guidance from the Building Principal in carrying out the essential duties and responsibilities to provide overall leadership, quality assurance, managerial and administrative support for the Ombudsman site. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. An individual must be able to perform their duties in a positive work model and serve as a positive role model and influence for youth and peers. Position Duties:
  • Monitors adherence to curriculum by reviewing lesson plans and classroom materials to assure compliance with state curriculum standards. Communicates with teachers on a regular basis regarding curriculum changes and assists teachers in choosing supplemental materials to provide differentiated instruction.
  • Monitors IEP development, development of IEP goals and objectives, data collection, and the administration of formal and informal academic/transition/social-emotional assessments.
  • Mentors teachers through classroom observations and providing feedback. Role models research-based instructional strategies and academic rigor in the classroom. Provides guidance to teachers regarding problem-solving instructional techniques and effective teaching methods for challenging students. Assists teachers in time management and prioritizing tasks. Provides leadership to teachers through professional development and by role modeling program implementation.
  • Assists in scheduling students, classes, and teachers to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of the students, communicating any individual needs of the students and staff members to the Assistant Principal.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver Chancelight identified instructional practices and strategies that facilitate active learning experiences and support the instructional vision for the site effectively using Chancelight provided materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Uses assessment data to guide instruction and/or academic intervention for each student. Prepare and maintain the site and classrooms for operation.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment to ensure fidelity of instruction and student performance/evaluation.
  • Assign, grade and provide appropriate and effective feedback on student work. Observe and evaluate student's performance and development. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students in accordance with the determined timeline.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, Chancelight and Ombudsman policies and district policies. Prepare required reports on student progress, achievement and activities.
  • Manage student behavior in the center by upholding the Ombudsman philosophy and policies, and apply appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Support students, counsel students with academic issues and provide encouragement to students.
  • Participate in center meetings, district meetings, student and parent meetings as requested.
  • Regularly communicate necessary information to students, team members, supervisors and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Keep up to date with research-based practices and developments in subject area, resources and professional development.
  • Participate in the assurance and accreditation processes to ensure that the site passes or meets performance plans.
  • Works collaboratively with other staff for the good of the center.
