Summary

Responsible for providing assistance to the Lead of the Preschool room by tending to the personal needs of children (ages 2 ? to 5 years) including lifting, holding, diapering, feeding and potty training; preparing class materials; performing clerical duties; assisting with class instruction; organizing, preparing and disinfecting room and toys; communicating with Lead and/or parents regarding children's progress, behavior and/or discipline; and supervising children. The classroom includes both regular education and special education children; therefore, a person in this position may be assigned to one and/or both student groups within the one classroom on any given day.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

High school diploma or equivalent; Early Childhood Teacher qualification (Completed 1 ECE course with a C or better (ECE 101 or ECE 103 preferred) and 12 mos. Verified experience or 2 ECE courses (ECE 101, ECE 103, or 238) with a C or better. Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Based on Colorado Department of Human Services ECE course requirements. Hours of experience required depends on ECE education level.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT, OTHER:

Oral communication, interpersonal, English language, English writing and decision making skills. Ability to work with children of all abilities. Ability to gain knowledge of basic office equipment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Colorado Department of Human Services Early Childhood Teacher Qualification Letter. Fingerprint/background certification required at hire. CPR, First Aid and work health physical certifications required within 60 days after hire.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

This job is responsible for supervising the behavior and safety of students while in the classroom and on the playground. Acts as a resource for parents and students by ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for the children and by providing information regarding children's well-being, behavior and progress.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and use interpersonal skills. The employee is frequently required to compare, analyze, copy, compute, synthesize, compile and negotiate.
