PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The principal assumes responsibility for all aspects of a regional technical center for students
(grades 9-12) in the Northern Neck area to include instructional leadership; supervision of curriculum and
instructional programs; staff selection, evaluation and observation; student services; and other assigned
management responsibilities. Provides leadership for the operation of the school program consistent with district
and state regulations.

REPORTS TO:

Northern Neck Technical Center's Executive Superintendent and the Northern Neck Technical Center
Joint Board of Control.
MINIMUM QUALIFCATIONS: Must hold a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in
administration and supervision. Must have had at least three years of full-time experience as an administrator or
teacher at the high school level and possess strong leadership capabilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctoral degree in educational leadership, and experience in career and technical
education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the operations of a public school system.
Proven leadership skills with faculty and students; possess high moral standards and integrity, preferred
prior administrative experience.
Exhibits effective human relations and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with school personnel, students, parents and members of the community.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to plan, organize, and facilitate the
instructional programs; ability to assist in all aspects of instruction.
Sufficient mobility to perform hall and school ground monitoring activities.
Possess high moral standards and integrity.
Knowledge of special education regulations and inclusive instructional practices.

GENERAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership for the instructional program.
Fosters a positive school climate that promotes student learning.
Monitors and assess student progress; Resolves conflicts and manages crises.
Ensuring appropriate student conduct consistent with school standards and division policies.
Supervises and evaluates staff, providing staff leadership, staff development, and training.
Provides effective management of the physical plant, financial accounts, instructional materials, and
equipment.

Interprets the school's instructional program to parents and the community; develops positive school-
community relations.

Develops and implements an educational operating plan for the school which includes contributions by
the staff, parents, students, and community members.
Supervises all special programs to include but not limited to special education and gifted.
Develops and meets personal and professional goals from an established list of possible target areas.

Career & Technology Responsibilities and Duties:
Ensures that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis, and that findings are used to
make career and technology program more effective.
Facilitates planning and application of technologies in career and technology education program.
Encourages and supports development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such
efforts when appropriate.
Plans the necessary time, resources, and materials to support subordinates in accomplishing educational
goals.
Obtains and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge program effectiveness.
Ensures that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
Provides career exploration and awareness resources and testing materials.
Serves on state and local committees.
Establishes student admission criteria for each career and technology program.
Identifies and defines local job opportunities for students.
Assumes responsibility for career and technology education facilities and coordinate needed repairs and
maintenance.
Implements the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local
board policy in area of career and technology education.
Compiles, maintains, files, and presents all physical and computerized reports, records, and other
document required.
Administers the career and technology budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds
are managed prudently.
Compiles budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend the disposal and replacement
of equipment when necessary.
Approves and forwards purchase orders to accounting department.
Develops training options and/or improvement plans to ensure operation of career and technology
education department.
Evaluates job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
Participates in recruitment, selection, and training of personnel. Make sound recommendations about
personnel placement, transfer, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of instructional staff, aides, and support staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

240 day contract. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
