    JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY

    Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Train reading volunteers and conduct literacy intervention through small group reading instruction at the strategic level of intervention as a supplement to core instruction.

    Elementary Skills Specialist Specific

    Learning specialists are teachers who provide specialized educational support to individuals or groups of students who are struggling academically at school. The Elementary Teacher will understand the basic subjects taught in grade school and be comfortable teaching classes to grades 1 through 6. Teachers should also understand childhood development and be able to communicate effectively with children ages 5 through 12.

    STOMP Specific

    Position will work with community volunteers, training them to deliver scripted literacy interventions. Some promotion and advocacy of the program is needed. Observation and feedback of volunteers will be needed. They would also provide resources for the volunteers to pass the Work Keys or GRE, so that the volunteers could be hired as a classified employee in the district, if they were to choose that path. The position would also monitor student learning data to ensure that students are progressing in their reading development..

    REQUIREMENTS

    Education Level Details

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

    License / Certification Required

    Must possess or qualify for a Colorado Teaching License

    Bilingual Education, CLDE (or equivalent), or Spanish preferred

    Work Experience Required

    One year residency, student teaching, or classroom experience preferred

    Other Skills and Abilities Required

    Knowledge of core academic subject assigned

    Knowledgeable of Colorado State Academic Standards

    Bilingual endorsement preferred

    Regular attendance is essential

    Must be knowledgeable about research-based, effective teaching practices

    Knowledge of national and state content standards and curriculum.

    EVALUATION

    Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provision of Adams County School District Board Policy, GCOA-Evaluation of Instructional Staff.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Instructional Strategies
    • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual students. Design instructional activities which enhance the objectives and which reflect an interdisciplinary/thematic approach to teaching.
    • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the district, board policies, and administrative regulations.
    • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
    • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
    • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
    • Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
    • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
    • Provide explicit and systematic instruction to improve students' specific skills, strategies, and concept development.
    • Organize or develop Tiered interventions for students in reading.
    • Assist in screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring assessments using DIBELS Next/IDEL and/or STAR Assessment.
    • Develop schedules and flexible groupings of homogeneous skills based on updated student performance data
    • Create and support academic partnership through individual student goal-setting and data-sharing folders for parents and teachers.
    • Support professional development training and coaching for classroom volunteers in small group strategic intervention using an evidence-based intervention reading program and effective teaching practices.
    • Support in the development of lesson plans in collaboration with classroom volunteers conducting small group instruction.
    • Manage, organize and institute systems and structures for classroom volunteers (scheduling, reporting hours, requirements, procedures, and/or processes.)

    • Showcase the academic performance of students.
    • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal assessment.
    • Be a positive role model for students

    Classroom Management and Organization
    • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
    • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct / Student Handbook.
    • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.


    Communication
    • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

    Professional Growth and Development
    • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
    • Comply with the Colorado Department of Education, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
    • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
    • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

    Policy, Reports, and Law
    • Comply with policies established by Federal and State law, State Board of Education rule, and local Board Policy.
    • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the building Principal and the Superintendent of Schools.


    Budget Responsibilities
    • Compile and maintain records of instructional materials and supplies.

The position requires travel to various campuses, district meeting sites and conferences/meetings in and out of state. The position may require the employee to work some evenings and weekends.
