Description:
Knowledge of the Florida Code of Ethics for Educational Interpreters in reference and
application. Ability to work with students with disabilities. Ability to communicate orally and
in writing. Ability to plan, organize and establish priorities related to assignment. Ability to
carry out job responsibilities and handle sensitive information in a confidential manner. Ability
to work independently and make decisions with minimum supervision. Ability to handle
multiple tasks in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to answer a telephone in a
professional and courteous manner. Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Job Summary:
To facilitate communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in pre-
kindergarten through 12th grade programs using sign language, cued speech or oral
modes of visual communications.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
3. Registry of the Interpreters for the Deaf certification and completion of Interpreter
Training Program preferred.
4. If assigned to a Title I school, also meet the requirements for the No Child Left Behind
Act:
a. Two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; or
b. Associate's or higher degree; or
c. Knowledge and ability to assist in instruction in core subjects as verified by a
rigorous state or local assessment.
5. Experience with the deaf population.
6. Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.
