Position Purpose
The Digital Learning Specialist is responsible for working with system-level technology staff, technicians, and network engineers as well as with school-based instructional staff. This individual coordinates the implementation of the school system's instructional technology plan at the building level. The employee should promote and implement the use of instructional and administrative technology systems, and will develop, coordinate and implement technology professional development to meet requirements of the NC Digital Learning Competencies for Teachers and Administrators, the ISTE NETS and for the teaching of the Information and Technology skills standard. The employee should work collaboratively with central office and school-based personnel to use technology and include technology applications as an integral part of the total instructional program. The employee may oversee specific state or local programs related to the integration or implementation of technology in the instructional program.
Position Analysis Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
Minimum Qualification Standards
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of pre-K-12 curriculum
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of technology resources and systems
Education, Training, and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Teacher Education
- Master's in Digital Learning or related field Preferred
Certification and License Requirements
- NC 077 Instructional Technology Specialist Preferred; 18079 Computer Education Endorsement
- Teaching experience in pre-K-12 required
Special Requirements
- Valid North Carolina Drivers License
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides onsite assistance to staff in the selection of technology resources and solutions
- Develops, coordinates, and implements technology professional development
- Works with system-level personnel to assess and plan for new technologies
- Supports school staff in the operation of instructional and administrative technology systems
- Assists in the integration of technology into the instructional program
- Develops and models instructional activities for staff within the district
- Investigates and disseminates information on best practices for technology integration
- Serves as a source of information on trends, research, applications, and effective practices related to technology use in the school program
- Collaborates with the Director of Digital Learning to develop district practices to support instruction
- Provides coaching and mentoring for school personnel in the area of technology integration

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes required to sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to drive to a variety of school sites.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor classroom conditions and regularly works near a video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work is typically performed in the Classroom Office. Daily contact is made with all classified employees, teachers, administrators and students in person.
