Coordinator of Alternative Education Services - Keene High School

This is a full-time temporary position that is anticipated to be filled until the end of the 2023-2024 school year, subject to grant approval.

Essential Functions

Implement and evaluate a high school dropout prevention program for Keene High School, including:
  • Work as a member of the multidisciplinary teams (CST, Data Team, A-team WRAP) to develop interventions for students at risk of academic failure due in part to the unique situations related to the COVID pandemic including the social emotional criteria that result in an increased risk of dropping out.
  • Work collaboratively with school counselors, case managers, ELO coordinator, Work-Based learning coordinator, Keene Community Education and other school personnel and services to develop and implement alternative educational plans for students (pursuant to Policy IBHI).
  • Act as a liaison among students, families, school staff and community resources/agencies to promote access to support services for social-emotional development.
  • Act as a liaison for students and school counselors to ensure that plans are in place for post-secondary transitions.
  • Implement strategies that emphasize career exploration and career goals.
  • Assist with crisis intervention with assigned students.
  • Conduct home visits.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive parent/guardian communication.
  • Maintain appropriate records and data management systems to track student success.
  • Schedule and facilitate wraparound services and meetings.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Experience and knowledge of work with at-risk youth, particularly those with social/emotional risks/deficits.
  • Familiarity with community resources that will assist students and families in Keene and surrounding communities, Cheshire County and New Hampshire.
  • Familiarity with truancy interventions and CHINS petitions procedures.
  • Familiarity with VLACS, Khan Academy or other distance learning tools/services.
  • Familiarity with special education procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain FERPA confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Experience: 1-3 years' work with at-risk youth.
Education: School Counselor preferred. BS/BA in School Counseling, Social Work, Education, Psychology or related background.
Certificates: Hold or be eligible for certification (NH0040) or (NH 0049)
