Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Valid Washington State Teaching certificate with a background in Mathematics or Science
  • WSP/FBI fingerprint background clearance (fee paid by the employee)
  • Teaching experience in a secondary setting
  • Experience teaching in the Mastery-Learning environment or a willingness to learn mastery based teaching methods
  • Be an active, contributing member in the Elma School District Mastery Learning team
  • Use the Empower Learning management System to assess student progress in meeting mastery-based standards
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position
  • The safety and health of students and others is an essential function of this position
Reports to: Building Principal

Evaluation: Building Principal(s)

Example of Duties:
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designed
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Create an maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for individual interest and learning styles of students
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives all lessons, units, protects, and be able to communicate these objectives for all lessons, using district-approved curriculum
  • Effectively utilize district technology appropriate to the position and assume responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designed responsibilities as directed by the supervisor
  • Comply with District rules and regulations
  • Effectively communicates with parents in a variety of ways
  • Actively participates with faculty, staff, and administration through Professional Learning Communities
  • Maintain regular attendance reports as indicated by the district
  • Other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
  • Secondary school teaching experience
  • Must demonstrate mastery-learning based teaching and assessment strategies or be willing to lean mastery based teaching methods
  • Must be an active, contributing member of the Elma High School Mastery Based team
  • Must be flexible in allowing students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways
  • Ability to motivate/challenge students to develop their abilities
