Job Summary
A multi-functional, specialist who serves as a liaison between the Archdiocese of Detroit and its parishes and schools providing accounting and financial analysis and functions, communication, and support of Archdiocesan policies. Also supports internal Central Services accounting/finance projects.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide accounting functions for parishes/schools and within Central Services.
  • Assist in testing the accounting system to identify areas of concern.
  • Collaborate with staff to re-engineer existing business processes as needed.
  • Assist in developing updates to financial policies and procedures.
  • Research and provide technical information and analysis in the areas of accounting, taxation, government regulations, financial reporting, and budgeting.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements for automated collection and reporting of financial data and analysis.
  • Analyze Archdiocesan parish and non-parish school (NPS) annual budget and financial reports to understand deficiencies in reporting and identify concerning financial trends. Provide insight to parish/NPS as appropriate.
  • Summarize and analyze financial data of parishes and NPS' identified by Chancellor's Office for monthly facility project reviews with appropriate Councils.
  • Calculate annual Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) targets for all parishes, including review of credits and changes in parish/school status, and submit for final approval by appropriate staff.
  • Prepare CSA Target analysis worksheet for each parish.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong MS Office Suite skills.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills with knowledge of pivot tables, LOOKUP functions, formula nesting, and macros.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Strong financial analysis, organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Advanced certification such as CPA, CTP is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years' accounting and financial analysis experience required.
  • Background in Information Technology or accounting/financial system implementation a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged sitting and working at a desk with repetitive motion working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at a time.
  • May involve some standing, bending, and walking.
