Job Summary: To provide safe and efficient transportation in accordance with applicable policies, Regulations, and statutes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Obeys all traffic laws
  • Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
  • Keeps assigned bus clean.
  • Checks bus before and after each operation for mechanical defects.
  • Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  • Discharges students only as authorized
  • Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
  • Transports only authorized students.
  • Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
  • Complies with all provisions of 6.41.4 NMAC Standards for Providing Transportation for Eligible Students. A copy of this booklet has been made available to the employee at the time of hiring.
  • Attends all mandated in-service trainings, to include pre-service training conducted by APS School Bus Driver instructor
  • Eligible for random substance screening. Must report within 8 hours of notification.
  • Complies with all Board of Education policies and administrative procedures of the Alamogordo Public Schools.
  • Meets all qualifications and local district criteria to drive students on school-sponsored activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
  • Adheres to all health, safety, and sanitation policies of the District and notifies the proper authorities when repairs or replacements are required in order to maintain established standards.
  • Regular and predictable physical attendance in the workplace
  • Complies with all District Customer Service policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • School bus driver experience preferred
  • Successful completion of a driving record check through the NM Motor Vehicle Division with a solid safety record
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check in accordance with Section 22-10-3, NMSA, 1978 at applicant's expense
  • Satisfactory completion of a NM school bus driver's physical examination
  • Possess a valid New Mexico commercial driver's license (CDL) Class B for school buses, with S and P endorsements or the ability to obtain one.
  • Successful pre-employment substance screening in accordance with 49 CFR Part 382 at the District's testing lab at the applicant's expense
  • Ability to interact and communicate with students in a positive manner

Terms of Employment: School year consists of 184 days with appropriate placement on the Bus Driver Salary Schedule.
Conditions of Employment: Ability to comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 and, upon an offer of employment, complete an Employee's Statement of Health and submit to a functional capacity evaluation at the District's expense to determine ability to perform job-related functions and fitness for duty. Any offer of employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of all background, criminal, and reference investigations.
