Temporary Elementary SPED Para-Professional
This position assists in planning, organizing and providing academic learning experiences for students, including: providing each student with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to lead self-sufficient, well-adjusted, healthy, productive, socially responsible lives to the best of their individual potential.
Essential Functions
- Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a course of instruction designed to achieve required academic learning in all curriculum areas. Prepares students to successfully meet or exceed the standards of the Smarter Balanced Washington State Assessment.
- Supports and actively participates in Professional Learning Community meetings (PLC TEAMS) on a regular basis.
- Participates with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior.
- Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population.
- Educates special needs students within the regular classroom environment and / or the Resource Room (one on one) (small group) in collaboration with support staff.
- Communicates and reports student(s) progress to parents regularly.
- Maintains student records, including daily grades, progress reports, quarterly reports, essential learning's data, weekly AIMSWEB assessments, cumulative records, orders, inventories, & prepares other documents in a timely and competent fashion.
- Provides instruction to students utilizing approved grade level curriculum, mandated schedules, and a variety of instructional strategies focused at meeting individual student needs, and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology.
- Refers students with special needs to appropriate staff for additional educational assistance and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve social, emotional, and educational challenges.
- Participates in team and individual instructional planning, which includes assistance in the submission of weekly lesson plans with the supervising teacher.
- Participates in staff meetings and monthly in-service training sessions.
- Works cooperatively with total building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma and preparation to successfully pass the Washington State Para Educators exam in Elementary Education.
- Have earned an associates degree OR earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education.
- Experience which provides the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work.
- Washington State (OSPI) Para Professional Certification (Waived)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in teaching Native American students or other similar diverse populations.
- Washington State (OSPI) Para Professional Certification (waived)
- Knowledge of Common Core Standards, Reading and/or Special Education endorsement(s).
