PURPOSE OF JOB: Supervise and direct the workflow of the communications team by assigning job tasks, facilitating interdepartmental communications and managing internal and some external communications. Convey the role, objectives, accomplishments as well as the needs of KCPS to the district and community to earn understanding and support of the district's mission and vision. To provide timely and accurate information to various internal and external constituencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Creates policies and procedures for the purpose of communications events and some public relations activities for the District at every level from one-on-one discussions between District personnel and a parent or community member, to internal team procedures, to systematic procedures, among others.
  • Assists in developing systematic, research-based marketing and communications plan, which identifies key stakeholders, key messages and outlines specific strategies, tactics and activities for the purpose of improved communications.
  • Plans and manages department budget and attends budget sessions with Business and Finance when necessary.
  • Coordinates website information and content for KCPS.
  • Collaborates with public relations coordinator and marketing manager in developing/maintaining social media profiles and quality content on Twitter, Facebook,YouTube, Instagram and Linked In.
  • Collaborates with marketing manager to coordinate and track website analytics and enrollment trends.
  • Provides assistance and guidance for relevant, timely information to be shared with staff and the public.
  • Works directly with the public and members of community groups on projects for the purpose of enhancing the image of the District and advancing its objectives.
  • Coordinates the strategic design, implementation and management of a range of on-line & off-line communication strategies.
  • Develop strategic communications plan for promotion and dissemination.
  • Develop promotions, events and communications with other departments and the Management Team.
  • Collaborates with marketing manager on inbound marketing system, including campaign development and data analysis.
  • Identify appropriate print and social media channels for targeted campaigns.
  • Develop and implement customer service response to common complaints and a process in which they are resolved and communicated.
  • Create content where needed to support project needs (examples include: the production of professional development videos, KCPS-TV website videos, School Board Meetings, Athletic Events and more)
  • Manage and program Time Warner 18 (KCPS-TV)
  • Oversee the implementation of digital signage throughout the district
  • Oversee the modernization of the video library and manage the direction of the district's YouTube platform.
  • Oversee training to district staff on media technology???
  • Assist in troubleshooting of media technology and implementation of media technology.
  • Special Projects (examples include but not limited to: Convocation, Graduations, Press Conferences, KCPS Homeroom)

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
    • Five (5) years of experience in public relations with an urban or public entity.
    • Strong leadership ability, presentation skills and the ability to evaluate pending and/or potential matters and development resolutions and/or responses which are consistent with the District's mission.
    • Demonstrated experience and success in managing and supervising multiple tasks.
