Reporting to the Director of Education, The Vanguard School has an opening for a Family and Consumer Science Teacher. We are looking for creative, compassionate teachers with experience working with students diagnosed with autism, emotional disorders, and/or behavioral needs.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Plan instructional lessons, in writing, according to a planned scope and sequence, addressing individual differences among the students assigned according to the program's pre- determined goals.
• Offer instructional delivery that is goal related, clearly states expectations, involves equitable student participation, is properly paced, allows for differentiation, and includes assessment.
• Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
• Consistently implement behavioral programs, clearly defining limits and expectations, encouraging student self-discipline verbally and by example. Documents behavioral incidents.
• In conjunction with the Food Service Manager, assist students with food preparation according to the menu cycle, serving food in a fresh and appealing manner, and maintaining the kitchen and kitchen equipment in a clean and sanitary manner.
• Supervise students at all times in accordance with policy for student health and safety, while maintaining a clean, safe learning environment.
• Maintain a record for requisitions, books, instructional aids and equipment; maintains required inventory records, purchases groceries and other supplies as authorized.
• Correlate instruction with other instructional areas when possible and desirable, by planning experiences that include other subject areas with the curriculum.
• Arrange for the use of a variety of teaching supplies, equipment and multi-media instructional material, including self-prepared materials.
• Maintain a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with colleagues, students and parents at all times.
• Assign instructional materials to students and insures proper care, use and return of such
• materials.
• Maintain classroom in proper appearance and end-of-year inventory and storage of materials.
• Assist with the budgeting process, such as determining program goals and ordering appropriate materials, suggesting field trips, etc. in conjunction with the Program Supervisor and the Director of Vanguard.
• Comply with all organizational policies and procedures including those stated in the VFES Policies & Procedures manual and additional verbal and written communications provided to staff members.
• Maintain a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with administrators, colleagues, parents, students, and others at all times.
• Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service activities, and other meetings as
• required.
• Maintain proper credentials for assignment and remain educationally informed in all related
• areas including PDE regulations and state/national standards through continued professional study
• and attending workshops and conferences.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

• Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science and/or Special Education.
• Current, valid Pennsylvania certification in Family and Consumer Science required; additional certification in Special Education preferred.
• Current, valid ServSafe Certification required
• Background in food preparation, clothing construction, home planning and family living.
• Strong knowledge of Pennsylvania and National Family and Consumer Science Standards.
• Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the work process.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all
• constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and others).
• Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
• Ability to use computers and perform clerical skills at a proficient level.
