Position : Manager, Research & Evaluation (40 hours/12 months)
Office of Strategy
Reports to: Chief Strategy Officer
Overview of the Role:
Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, the Manager, Research and Evaluation will lead the design and implementation of research and evaluation efforts to support evidence-based decision-making in pursuit of CPS's goals. This is a particularly exciting opportunity, given the recent adoption of a new three-year strategic plan and the Executive Leadership Team's commitments to coherence, transparency, accountability, and equity.
As part of a reorganization of this department, the Manager, Research and Evaluation, in partnership with the Chief Strategy Officer and other key leaders, is poised to play a significant role in the reshaping and strengthening of evidence-based decision making district-wide.

As the incoming Manager, Research & Evaluation,, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
Full-time position (12 months per year/40 hours per week). Primary Location: Central Office, Berkshire Street Location.

Key Responsibilities :
Lead district's research and survey functions:
- Refine and oversee annual cycle of data collection, analysis and reporting on District Plan outcomes and other key indicators
- Design and manage multi-year research and program evaluation plan, aligned to the District Plan, to be conducted internally or externally by research partners
- Collaborate with internal departments to support research and program evaluation needs, and review and support research and evaluation components of grants
- Manage engagement of research partners, including scope development, procurement process, and contract and project oversight
- Oversee system of external requests to conduct research in schools or with students or staff
- Develop practical data collection instruments (protocols, rubrics, surveys, etc.) and plans (sampling, frequency, duration)
- Collect qualitative data through surveys, structured and semi-structured interviews, focus groups, observations, and artifacts to support annual survey cadence, research projects and community engagement processes
- Code, score, visualize, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data
- Synthesize relevant research literature on topics of interest identified by district leadership
- Integrate evidence from multiple sources, including external research, internal data, and stakeholder data
- Translate complex data or research into actionable information that can be properly understood by district leaders, policymakers, administrators, teachers, and the general public
- Making data accessible to various internal and external stakeholders, including department and school leaders, families, and the general public, including through data visualizations and manage internal- and public-facing data dashboards
As the incoming Manager, Research & Evaluation,, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S) from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred
- At least 5 years of related experience, with a preference for professional experience in K-12 school systems or education agency
- Belief in CPS's mission, vision, and core values
- Experience and facility manipulating large-scale datasets
- Experience utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods, including formative and summative evaluations, surveys, focus groups, process evaluations, cost analyses, participatory evaluations, implementation and effectiveness studies
- Familiarity with technical frameworks for improvement (logic models, driver diagrams, conceptual models, system maps, process maps)
- Track record of success managing projects, including budgets, contracts, and timelines
- Experience translating statistical information for non-expert and non-technical audiences
- Broad knowledge about the K-12 educational landscape and knowledge of education research, education policy, or the learning sciences preferred
- Understanding of core principles of student data privacy, confidentiality, and security
- Creative and innovative disposition, able to tackle challenges with persistence and a sense of humor
- Excellent organizational, analytical, writing, verbal communications, and interpersonal skills.
