Summary Description

The Director of Evangelical Charity ensures a full response to Catholic Social Teaching through charity in areas of human need, both in the Family of Parishes (FOP) and beyond. The Director of Evangelical Charity works for justice by the promotion and coordination of action to eliminate the causes of human need in our society and ensures all evangelical charity initiatives are based on a person-to-person engagement approach that places a primary value on the integral connection between works of mercy, accompaniment, and evangelization ( UTG Markers 6.1,6.2 and 8.4 ). Attention should be given to sensitivity to cultural diversity.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides the FOP with the awareness of human needs and the means to respond to those needs within the local community and beyond.
  2. Provides the FOP with the challenges and the methods to confront the structural causes of these needs.
  3. Works with FOP Leadership Team to integrate social ministry with evangelization and the liturgical life of the FOP by providing ongoing education and formation to parishioners in the areas of Catholic Social Teaching.
  4. Collaborates with ecumenical groups on community-wide projects with the Director of Family Engagement.
  5. Coordinates the recruitment, training, and support of Evangelical Charity volunteers.
  6. Ensures that the work of volunteers is done with evangelical fervor.
  7. Assesses effectiveness of services provided to parishioners, the poor, and the local community.
  8. Under the direction and support of the FOP Mission Support Director prepares and maintains the annual budget for Evangelical Charity.
  9. May serve on FOP Leadership Team.
  10. Supports any reasonable request of the Moderator/One Pastor.

Qualifications

Education, skills & experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in social work or related field preferred.
  2. Christian Service Certification through the Archdiocese of Detroit required.
  3. Must be a Catholic in good standing.
  4. Understands the important role of Evangelical Charity within the Church's mission of evangelization.
  5. Must be mission driven and a creative problem solver.
  6. Must be confident in, possess a strong knowledge of and speak to the Unleash the Gospel document.
  7. Understands Catholic social teaching as presented in the documents of Vatican II, Papal encyclicals, documents of the USCCB, and other relevant Church documents.


Skills, knowledge, and abilities

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  2. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  3. Demonstrates a commitment to high professional ethical standards.
  4. Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards.
  6. Ability to work a flexible schedule and occasional weekends and evenings.
