Greenwich Public Schools is seeking a 0.9 FTE long-term substitute visual arts teacher from November 9, 2022 through approximately February 21, 2023.
Position Purpose
To provide an instructional program that will help students to:
- Create, perform, and respond with understanding to the arts
- Appreciate the importance of the arts in expressing human experiences
- Be prepared to apply their arts knowledge and skill throughout their lifetimes
- Knowledge of current art instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as ability to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles
- Knowledge of and experience teaching to the National Core Arts Standards
- Ability to use a computer network system and software applications as needed
- Ability to organize and coordinate work
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents/guardians
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
- Administers school art curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for art instruction
- Provides instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art, art appreciation, and what constitutes art
- Utilizes a variety of social-emotional and art therapeutic strategies to engage all diverse learners in the school
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student skills and learning in artistic techniques and expression, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including those of students with special needs
- Conducts individual and small-group instruction as needed
- Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids
- Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time
- Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment used in art classes
- Creates learning opportunities through which students can analyze and evaluate artistic expression both intellectually and emotionally
- Reviews and implements modifications, accommodations, and intervention plans for all students, both general education students and special education students
- Use of district-issued digital tools.
Certification/License
- CT State Certification as an Art PreK-12 teacher (042)
- Bachelor's from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Master's Degree preferred.
