Summary
Under the direction of a licensed teacher, responsible for assisting with supervising students in the teacher's absence, providing instruction or reinforcing curriculum with small groups of students, performing clerical work, reading to students and/or administering tests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Daily

Supervise the classroom while teacher is meeting with literacy or math teaching partner

Supervise students on the playground before school, after school and during lunch and recess.

Provide and/or reinforce curriculum with small math group in classroom.

Perform clerical work for the teacher, including copying, grading papers, preparing bulletin boards, etc.

Monitor students while students work independently or in small groups

Work with small groups of students during literacy time in the classroom.

Follow the teacher's directions and/or lesson plans to ensure students are engaged in their learning in reading, writing, math, word study, science and social studies.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree preferred. Must have completed at least two years (48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education or obtain a passing score on the WorkKeys assessment in Math, Reading and Writing.
EXPERIENCE:
No experience required. Experience working with children preferred.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT, OTHER:
Oral communication, interpersonal, English language, English writing and decision making skills. Ability to work with children of all abilities. Ability to gain knowledge of basic office equipment. Operating knowledge of copy machine and laminator required within 2 months after hire. Operating knowledge of personal computer preferred.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:
This job is responsible for supervising the behavior and safety of students while in the classroom and lunchroom, on the playground and during field trips. Acts as a resource for parents and students by ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for the children and by providing information regarding children's well-being, behavior and progress as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and/or sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and use interpersonal skills. The employee is frequently required to compare, copy, coordinate, instruct and negotiate. The employee is occasionally required to evaluate, analyze, compute, compile and synthesize.
