Summary:

Responsible for assisting the Preschool Facilitator by supporting the needs of children (ages three to five years) including self-care needs such as lifting, holding, diapering, feeding and toilet training and ; assisting with class preparation and instruction including preparing class materials, supporting whole group, small group, and individualized instruction and organizing, preparing and disinfecting room and toys. Communicates with staff and other stakeholders, including parents, regarding children's progress, behavior and/or discipline; and development. Supervises both regular education and special education children in the classroom and outside the classroom.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Daily 15% Tend to the needs of children including self-care needs such as feeding, dressing, and toileting and/or diapering; social-emotional needs such as calming, comforting, redirecting, and encouraging; physical needs such as support with mobility; and personal safety needs such as caring for a sick or injured child and maintaining safety rules. Daily 5% Prepare, gather, exchange, and organize class materials as assigned by the Preschool Facilitator. Daily 20% Assist the Preschool Facilitator with whole group, small group and individualized class instruction. Promote quality interactions with all students throughout the environment. Daily 10% Support Preschool Facilitator to ensure health and safety rules and guidelines are followed such as disinfecting and/or sanitizing materials and toys, tables, and diapering area, preparing food and/or snack, and supporting hand-washing procedures. Daily 10% Communicate with Lead and other stakeholders, and when appropriate, parents or guardians regarding children's progress, needs, behavior, discipline, development, etc. Daily 10% Support Preschool Facilitator with assisting students with daily routines including arrival and departure, entering and exiting the building, classroom procedures and safety drills. Daily 2% Observe and document student growth and development. Daily 15% Supervise children in the school building, classroom and on the playground Daily 5% Support the Preschool Facilitator with assisting student on individual education plans (IEP) and providing accommodations. This may include students physical and mobility needs such as occasionally lifting students in and out of wheel chairs for positioning, diaper changing and toileting. Yrly 3% Complete all state requirements regarding childcare licensing. Attend meetings related to the preschool programing including professional learning and training. Daily 5% Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

High school diploma or equivalent; Must meet one of the following qualifications (1) Completion of one Early Childhood Education courses with a course grade of "C" or better ; and a minimum of nine months of verified experience. OR (2) Completion of two Early Childhood Education courses with a course grade of "C" or better. OR (3) a current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level 1 or higher.

EXPERIENCE:

Based on Colorado Department of Human Services ECE course requirements. Hours of experience required are dependent on the ECE education level.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:

Oral communication, interpersonal, English language, English writing and decision making skills. Ability to work with children of all abilities. Ability to gain knowledge of basic office equipment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

Early Childhood Professional Credential Level I or higher in Version 3.0 of the Colorado Professional Development Information System (PDIS). Fingerprint, background, and trails certification required at hire.
Compliance with all Colorado Department of Human Services rules regulating child care centers (less than 24 hours)

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

This job is responsible for supervising the behavior and safety of students while in the classroom and on the playground. Acts as a resource for students by ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for the children

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS:

Medium exposure to self to bruises and cuts due to classroom accidents, playground accidents or upset children; to disease due to caring for sick or injured students; and to repetitive motion injuries due to frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching or sitting/rising from the floor. Low exposure to self to fractured bones due to falling on the playground, to hernia due to lifting children and to loss of sight due to flying objects. May expose children to injuries on the playground or in the classroom if a person in this position fails to properly monitor children's safety. May also expose children to disease or further injury if a person in this position fails to properly handle or dispose of body fluids or administer proper and timely care to sick or injured children.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk The employee is occasionally required to sit, run, climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and use interpersonal skills. The employee is frequently required to compare, analyze, copy, compute, synthesize, compile and negotiate.
