Teacher Salary: Level I - $50,000.00 Minimum, Level II $60,000 Minimum, Level III $70,000.00 Minimum

*The Salary for this position will be prorated from the start date for the 22-23 SY*

To deliver the District educational program by teaching students academic, social and motor skills according to State and District education standards and other appropriate agencies, and to provide equal educational opportunities for all students.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives general direction from the Principal or assignee.

May exercise technical and functional supervision over supervisory, professional, technical clerical, and volunteer staff.

Essential Function Statements - Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Prepare course objectives and outline of course of study following the State ad District curriculum guidelines or requirements.
  • Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to students.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional and activity purposes; operates and cares for various audio visual equipment; operate variuos office machines to prepare materials.
  • Prepares, adminsters, and corrects tests, and records results; Assigns lessons, corrects papers, and hears oral presentation.
  • Teachers rules of conduct; Maintains order in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Maintains a classroom environment conducive to age appropriate learning.
  • Counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise; Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
  • Keeps attendance and grade records as required by the District.
  • Coordinates class field trips.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Participate in and/or share loads in extra-curricular student and school activities.
  • Performs all teaching competencies as required by the District/State.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications Requirements :

Knowledge of:
  • Basic principles of early childhood development including human growth and development, and special education.
  • Classroom management.
  • Content area theories, approved curriculum, and the objectives of assigned area of instruction.
  • Teaching methods and resources for each assigned area of instruction.
  • Modern, effective and innovative teaching practices and techniques.
  • Modern office and classroom equipment, including computers.
  • The principles of student growth, development, and learning to enhance student learning and understanding.
  • State and District curriculum guidelines or requirements.
  • Educational foundations of a school district, including the organization, administration, funding resources, and record keeping.
  • Native American communities in the southwest.
  • Cultural diversities of the local area.
Ability to:
  • Accurately demonstrate knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught and/or assigned.
  • Communicate with and obtain feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.

  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Understand and respect the cultural diversities, and Native American traditional beliefs and practices, of students and their families.
In addition to the essential functions stated, a Pre-Kindegarten Teacher may perform these duties specific to their field of specialization:
  • Deliver designated curriculum and educational program to three and four-year old children.
  • Conduct home visits and parent training/workshops.
  • Expend and maintain record of expenditures of any federal funding allocation.
  • Assist children with self help, feeding and personal hygiene skills.
  • Work with parents to identify strengths and needs of children; maintain records of the growth, health, behavior and developmental progress of each child.
Experience and Training Guideline :
Any combination of experience and training that wouldl ikely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience : One year of related work experience in a school setting is desirable.

Education : Equivalent to a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university is appropriate educational field.

Licensure & Certificates : Applicants must have BA degree and possess or have ability to obtain a NM teaching license (New Mexico has an alternative licensure program for applicants who posess a BA degree or higher)

CPR Certificate/Driver's License : Applicants must possess or have the ability to obtain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR), and a valid New Mexico Motor Vehicle Operators license.

Working Conditions

Environmental Conditions : Classroom and field environment; may occasionally travel from site to site.

Physical Conditions : Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate to heavy lifting and sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.

Signing Incentive (New Classroom Teachers)
McKinley County Graduates (HS) (Any McKinley County School) $22,000
NM Graduates (HS or College) or Within Navajo Nation Boundaries $20,000
All Others $18,000

Signing Incentive
Relocation expenses for all new teachers, counselors and administrators will be paid in full on the first paycheck of the school year. All other incentives will be paid out over the course of two school years in four installments. Payment will be made ¼ on first paycheck of the first contract year, ¼ in May of the first contract year, ¼ in December of the second contract year and ¼ in May of the second contract year. The incentive will be prorated for hires made after the official work calendar start date but prior to February 24, 2022. Any hires made on or after February 24, 2022 will not be eligible to receive the signing incentives listed above. Failure to complete the terms of the employment contract in either of the two school years will result in the forfeiture of the entire signing incentive for that school year. Signing Incentives are effective immediately.

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the signing incentives, you must be a new employee
who was not employed in any certified capacity by GMCS during the 2021-2022 school year.
