Nuasin Next Generation Charter School is in search of motivated, mission-aligned individuals that want to join us in providing the scholars and families of the Highbridge section of the Bronx with the truly excellent school they need and deserve. We are looking for educators that believe in the talent and intellectual capabilities of our scholars. We are looking for educators that are excited to engage and ignite our scholars in deep intellectual engagement of great ideas, problem-solving activities, and a complex understanding of our academic content. The anticipated salary range is $65,000.00 to $100,000.00 for a candidate who will work in New York City, however Nuasin does not current cap salary ranges. The salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience to the job, education, and certifications.

A Speech Teacher at Nuasin Next Generation Charter School will:
  • Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
  • Monitor Scholars progress and make informed, timely educational decisions.
  • Conduct speech, language, and hearing screenings and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for clinical services.
  • Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and reevaluation process.
  • Participate in the development of Scholars IEP's.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of Scholars and special services that are available.
  • Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.
  • Refer Scholars and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
  • Cooperate with agencies serving Scholars and their families.
  • Provide therapy, follow up, and/or consultation based on Scholars IEP's.
  • Motivate Scholars through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of Scholars and provide for individual differences.
  • Set high expectations for Scholars achievement and behavior.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
  • Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
  • Plan and implement transitional programs for Scholars.
  • Assist Scholars in developing feelings of self worth and in making social adjustments which permit them to cope with disabilities.
  • Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
  • Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
  • See that school district and cooperative policies are observed during all activities.
  • Obtain advance approval for all special activities and expenditures.
  • Consult with classroom teachers regarding the management of scholars behavior according to IEP.
  • Consult district and outside resource people regarding the education, social, medical, and personal needs of scholars.
  • Collaborate with scholars, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP strategies
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of scholars assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist special education scholars in regular classes with assignments.
  • Conduct assessment of scholars learning styles and use results to plan for instructional activities.
  • Design and implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEP).
  • Prepare scholars for the transition to the next grade.
  • Create and communicate clearly defined academic / instructional goals and objectives for your scholars that support their State mandates and their academic success.
  • Clearly record, share, and communicate the progress of your scholars towards towards stated instructional / academic goals and objectives with your General Education counterparts, Nuasin Leadership and scholar families.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, scholars, school leadership, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, Scholars, parents, and community members.
  • Collaborating with parents and school staff to track scholars' progress.
  • Actively participate in a variety of meetings (e.g. grade level, data, coaching, professional growth, etc. ) for the purpose of driving Scholars achievement.
  • Advises parents or legal guardians of scholar progress such as scholar's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
