Job Details

Primary Function: The Associate Superintendent, Elementary/K8, leads and/or facilitates a wide range of district efforts for all programs in elementary and K-8 schools, including: school leadership, staff development, counseling, choice programs, district and state standards implementation, curriculum implementation, accountability; acts as representative of district in various community groups and forums; serves as a member of the district's leadership team and Superintendent's Cabinet.

Work Days: 250 Days

Requirements:

1. Education:
  • Education Specialist degree in education from an accredited college or university -OR- Master's degree in education with significant experience in educational administration Preferred : Extensive knowledge of and successful experience with school improvement and school turnaround. Earned doctorate

2. Experience, Skill, and Certification:

Required:
  • A combination of five or more years of principalship and/or district administrative experience, to include at least three years of principalship.
  • Educational Leadership Tier 2 Certificate.
  • Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with all members of the Academic Affairs leadership team and colleagues on the Superintendent's Cabinet
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and the public, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and sustain positive, effective work relationships with staff and the public
  • Flexibility to work effectively both independently and in teams, with a proven ability to work with various stakeholders to reach consensus
  • Knowledge and experience with school improvement
  • Sophisticated organizational skills
  • Proficiency with various forms of technology and various software platforms and Internet database
Supervisory Responsibilities: Evaluate elementary and K-8 principals and Early Childhood Program administrator, and other administrators as assigned.

Preferred:
  • Experience in a large urban system characterized by multi-ethnic and cultural diversity
Essential Duties:

  1. Design processes for implementing change and improving student achievement so that all students succeed
  2. Create direction, leadership and vision for elementary and K-8 schools through collaboration with sites, ensuring alignment with district vision, mission and goals
  3. Work collaboratively with district level colleagues to improve achievement, close achievement gaps, and prepare all students for career and college readiness
  4. Lead elementary and K-8 school reform initiatives and collaborate with other assistant superintendents to create a district-wide reform effort
  5. Provide leadership coaching to principals with an emphasis on quality instruction, student engagement and standards implementation
  6. Monitor the implementation of school improvement plans
  7. Lead vertical and transition planning and implementation
  8. Oversee school budget planning and expenditures
  9. Work with staffing and attendance team to distribute and monitor staffing plans
  10. Supervise creation of school schedules to ensure compliance with state requirements for instructional time
  11. Supervise school-based contracts
  12. Ensure compliance with Board of Education policies
  13. Establish and communicate guidelines and expectations for handbooks, school websites, newsletters, etc. that enhance and improve communication with students and families
  14. Oversee implementation of the state and federal career and technical education program guidelines as mandated by SCCPSS in conjunction with the district leadership team, principals, and teachers to ensure program compliance and optimal funding
  15. Support community partnerships
  16. Provides information and recommendations to the Deputy Superintendent/Superintendent and Board of Education on issues of school operations, curriculum, instruction, staff development, technology, accountability, accreditation, and other issues of general district concern
  17. Demonstrates positive, collaborative leadership and participates in collegial problem-solving in a variety of situations, departments and schools, emphasizing teamwork and beneficial effects on student learning
  18. Serves as a liaison representing the district in various community groups, state-level meetings, and in various settings as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent/Superintendent
  19. Facilitates the development of solutions, both long and short term, to issues and problems as needed within any department or school in the district or with groups or individuals outside the district
  20. Follows through on other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent/Superintendent

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 250 days. Salary will be determined based on level of certification and allowable experience. (A-2) Exempt New 06-21

Physical and Sensory Demands

OFFICE: Employees in this category are normally exposed to a typical environment. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies, as well as bending, stooping, or stretching. There is frequent use of computers, telephone, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.
