Greenwich Public Schools is seeking a long-term substitute mathematics teacher from November 28, 2022 through approximately December 23, 2022.
Position Purpose
To provide an instructional program that will help students to:
- Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
- Reason abstractly and quantitatively
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
- Model with mathematics
- Use appropriate tools strategically
- Attend to precision
- Look for and make use of structure
- Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
Essential Responsibilities
- Implements GPS mathematics curriculum consistent with school district goals, mission and vision.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Promotes a classroom environment that allows students the opportunity to solve rigorous real-world math problems.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Incorporates inquiry-based learning opportunities into instruction.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed.
- Provides appropriate, meaningful, and timely feedback to improve student achievement.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other school professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Maintains familiarity with district and Connecticut State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
- Incorporates technology and digital tools appropriately into instruction.
- Reviews and implements modifications, accommodations, and intervention plans for all students both general and special education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of GPS Mathematics curriculum, Connecticut Core State Standards for Mathematics and the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Ability to use a learning management system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to utilize a learning management system to interact and engage students.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking skills, while affording opportunity for creative activity.
- Ability to collaborate with instructional teams.
- Ability to employ a variety of teaching techniques through the use of appropriate instructional materials to meet the needs of all learners.

- CT State Certification as a Mathematics 7-12 teacher (029)
Education
- Bachelor's from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Master's Degree preferred.
