JOB DESCRIPTION

The person filling this position will screen children ages 3-5 for the Child Outreach Program. This person should have experience working with young children who may or may not have a bilingual background. This person will be able to engage a child to conduct an accurate and reliable norm referenced screening in English or Spanish. Training on specific instruments will be provided. This person will also be responsible for office duties including, but not limited to, scoring, data collection and entry, file review for peers, filing, and dissemination of information.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Teacher Assistant Certification
  2. Passing score of 461 or higher on PARA PRO TEST/OR 48 COLLEGE CREDITS
  3. Passing score on English Proficiency Test
  4. Minimum of academic high school diploma; college degree or some experience working with young children preferred.
  5. Must read, write and speak fluently in English (Preferred - ability to read, write, and speak fluently in Spanish.)
  6. Must demonstrate fluency in basic mathematical skills. Math test will be required.
  7. Must demonstrate proficiency in computer literacy, data collection and data entry.
  8. Demonstrated written and performance proficiency after training with instruments used for Child Outreach screenings.
  9. Ability to communicate with and relate to young children and adults.
  10. Demonstrated ability for clerical tasks/duties preferred.
  11. Must be able to drive and have personal car available throughout the school day.
  12. Attention to detail is imperative.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES

The duties of a Child Screening Specialist encompass a spectrum of responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:
  1. Will report directly to the Child Outreach Coordinator and Pre-K Program Manager.
  2. Will participate in assigned case finding / public awareness activities as assigned by the Child Outreach Coordinator; e.g. cold calling, scheduling appointments, assisting in mail campaigns, distributing public awareness literature.
  3. Will participate in all training sessions as related to assigned tasks.
  4. Will administer screening instruments to English and (if applicable) bilingual children.
  5. Will maintain screening records with at least 95% accuracy.
  6. Will accurately score protocols and communicate data.
  7. May be assigned to support evaluation team with parent communication and clerical duties.
  8. May be assigned to enter and report data.
  9. Will work a total of 180 days, including a minimum of 3 evenings and 4 Saturdays per year, which will be managed as flexible hours
