JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will report directly to the Executive Director or Leadership Development, and they will work collaboratively with the Executive Director to create a leadership pipeline to help ensure that all schools in PPSD are led by a strong, turnaround leader. Additionally, the Leadership Development Specialist will run all of the logistical operations for the Principal Leadership Academy, as well as the New Leader and School Leader Academy ensuring that the programs run smoothly.

Additionally, the Leadership Development Specialist will lead cross departmental work with Human Resources on recruitment, retention and pipeline strategies across the district. The Leadership Development Specialist will lead the Principal Interview process and will create an interview process guide to build out the process, as well as leading the implementation of new interview structures and systems.

The Leadership Development Specialist will lead and coordinate all logistical and operational aspects of the execution of the TSL Grant. This work will include being the main point of PPSD relationships and contact with all external collaborators. The Leadership Development Specialist will shape and lead this work alongside the Executive Leadership Development Specialist to ensure that the goals laid out in the TSL Grant will be met. The Director will take the lead on managing and maintaining the relationship between the Department of Education and PPSD, as well facilitating an open flow of communication between the DOE and PPSD.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Masters Degree in Education or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in education.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES

Leadership Fellows Academy
  • Lead and oversee all of the logistical aspects on the Providence Public Schools Side of the Principal Leadership Academy
  • Oversee and plan the School Leadership Academy, as well as leading as the primary onsite support throughout the five week summer program with TNTP.
  • Work collaboratively with TNTP and the Executive Director to roll out and provide professional development for the Principal Fellows to develop them into Turnaround Leaders.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will plan and oversee the recruitment and interview process for the next class of Fellows alongside the TNTP Partners.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will ensure that the Fellows are meeting all guidelines and growth metrics they are prepared to take on Administration roles in PPSD after the successful completion of the two year program.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will focus on the long term sustainability of the Leadership Academy and help to guide the development and sustainability of the program in Year 3 and beyond.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will lead sustainability conversations alongside the Executive Director as PPSD prepare to fully run the Academy
TSL Work
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will lead meetings with external TSL partners to ensure that all contracted work is completed in a timely manner in accordance with the grant.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will oversee the execution of contracts, such as collaborating with the Budget, Purchasing department as well as presenting the contract to the School Board.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will lead collaboration across departments both with School and Central Office based staff to ensure that the TSL Work is implemented equitably and equally across the district.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will take the lead on the research, writing and submitting both the Mid Year and End of Year ARP TSL Report for the Department of Education. The Leadership Development Specialist will also lead an internal meeting before the report is submitted to solicit feedback from PPSD Staff Members.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will convene and lead quarterly meetings with members of the Executive Staff to ensure that PPSD is meeting all of the proposed goals and metrics of the TSL Grant, as well as being on time and on budget with our spending expenditures.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will lead as the main point of contact for PPSD's TSL Officer with the DOE in order to ensure that there is always an open avenue of communication to further support collaboration.
  • Throughout all of the TSL Work the Leadership Development Specialist will ensure that all TSL work is being carried out in accordance with the TSL Grant proposal.
Cultivating and recruiting leadership talent
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will be the main owner of, and lead the Principal and Assistant Principal Application Process and will be tasked with leading the process from start to finish, as well as ensuring that the process runs smoothly and that all schools have a strong turnaround leader.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will lead the creation and build out of a Principal Recruitment work plan and guide that starts in January for the upcoming school year in order to be proactive and ensure positions for each upcoming school year are filled quickly.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will work closely with Human Resources to help develop a Principal and Assistant Principal Pipeline within PPSD.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will work in conjunction with the Executive Director to help plan and facilitate Summer Professional Development for new Assistant Principals and Principals during the Summer Leadership Academy.
Hiring and onboarding leadership talent
  • Work collaboratively with Human Resources to develop hiring strategies and best practices for Principals and Assistant Principals.
  • Ensure that hiring and recruitment for School Leadership is a continuous process throughout the school year, allowing positions to be quickly filled.
  • Lead logistical side of the Principal and Assistant Principal process for the Leadership Development Department.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will take the lead on developing and owning all of the Principal and Assistant Principal interview formats.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will take the lead on cleaning and analyzing the Principal Interview data, as well as sharing data informed next steps. This will encourage transparency during the interview process.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will serve as a Panelist during the Principal Interview Process.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will be the hiring manager for the Principal Pool in NeoEd, and will be responsible for moving candidates to each stage, as well as communicating with them through NeoEd.
  • In conjecture with Human Resources, the Leadership Development Specialist will screen all Principal Candidates before moving them to the interview stage.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will take the lead in coordinating with the Transformation Officer and School Based Staff to plan and lead school culture interviews to ensure that each principal candidate is matched with the school that is best suited for their skills and experience.
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will work in conjunction with the Executive Director to lead the new Principal onboarding and induction process.
Systems and systems to support leadership talent
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will create and own a living document that includes all of their past, present and ongoing work with the Executive Director
  • The Leadership Development Specialist will create and own a Drive of all of all of the relevant Principal recruitment and interview files so that there is a clear standard of practice and PPSD can ensure that the interview process is the same across the board.

  • Ability to write detailed briefs, summaries, data-driven reports, and counter-narratives
  • Ability to foster synergy in student achievement efforts with other district departments by working with a variety of professionals
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and work effectively with minimal supervision while adhering to strict deadlines in a fast-paced complex environment
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively to colleagues at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders
  • Superior organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to function effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to supervise and direct the work of a team of professionals
