Humanities Master Teacher Leader and Instructional Coach - 2022/2023 School Year (Woodlawn Middle Sc

The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. It has a three-part mission: 1) to assist students in developing the habits of mind, work, and heart to be successful in college and good citizens of their community; 2) to contribute to the community through student research, service, and leadership; and 3) to improve teaching and learning by serving as a site of professional development for teachers and school leaders. Woodlawn Middle School educates students in grades 6-8th.

Position Summary:

Full-time, salaried teaching position responsible for preparing students, regardless of tested ability, for success in college. Responsibilities include analyzing and using formative assessment data to improve instruction, designing curriculum and assessments using the learning standards of the University of Chicago Charter School, participating in and leading professional development activities; and enabling students to contribute to the community through the creation of new knowledge.

The Humanities Master Teacher Leader has the following job responsibilities:
  • Develops the Humanities enrichment curriculum, along with the scope and sequence
  • Plans for and teaches a Humanities-related enrichment course
  • Serves as instructional coach to Humanities teachers, engaging them in instructional coaching cycle (including lesson plan feedback and observation-debrief cycle)
  • Serves as a model classroom for other teachers
  • Has proven results in terms of assessment data and overall classroom performance
  • Serves on the Instructional Leadership Team
  • Leads professional development (as applicable)
  • Participates in schoolwide Tribes Program
Position Qualifications:

Master's degree and at least 5 years of experience in education required. In addition, an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) is required. Endorsements in middle school content areas strongly preferred. Qualified applicant will be an excellent teacher with proven experience enabling urban students to meet high expectations; reflective and receptive to providing and receiving professional feedback, video-taping and coaching; collaborative, collegial, goal-oriented, mission-drive, accountable, responsible, self-managed, and self-motivated and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
