SUMMARY

The successful applicant may teach courses that emphasize web-design, video production, multimedia methods, digital photography, and computer applications techniques in a competency-based, contextual learning format that contributes to academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, personal and work attitudes, SCANS skills, technical skills including occupation-specific skills, and career exploration and development; and develop a strategy for the inclusion of leadership development in such activities as student organizations in career and technical education. This person will be supported by building staff/administrative leadership and well as the Career & Technical Education Office in designing and implementing this new program.

Functions:
•Submit program approval documents as required by the Minnesota Dept. of Education
•Generate standards placement documents as required by the Minnesota Dept. of Education.
•Embed media Art Standard into curriculum
•Embed the Design Cycle requirement needed for students participating in the International Baccalaureate Programme where possible.
•Offer opportunities for students to achieve Industry Certifications, and/or earn college credit.
•Participate in Advisory Committee meetings to get advice relative to employment sectors and support for the Graphics Program
•Work with the Career & Technical Education Office to order resources necessary for this new program.
•Attend professional development training and conferences as necessary to maintain or upgrade skills that are on a par with industry.
•Participate in the collection of data needed for continued funding from Perkins and other funding streams

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Scope of practice; A teacher of communications technology careers is authorized to provide students in grades 9 through 12 instruction that is designed to develop an effective understanding of current communications technology core skills standards through instruction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Prior successful experience in urban, multicultural education desirable.
  • Demonstrates continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration, and/or job-embedded staff development.
  • Working knowledge of the subject matter, classroom management techniques, current researched best practices and strategies, as well as students' learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•Master's or PhD

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota teaching license in Communications Technology Careers; or proof of pending approved licensure

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
