School Social Worker - Elementary School (SY 22-23) [One Year Position]

Please note that this position is available for one year only. Hired candidates will be displaced or non-renewed from the position for the following school year, however, displaced teachers remain district employees and will be guaranteed a position in SY23-24.

Consistent with the Providence Public Schools' vision and mission, the School Social Worker is to work in partnership with parents, students, educators, and outside agencies to promote student achievement and created safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students and to assist students in succeeding academically, socially and emotionally. The school social worker provides a full range of social work services to children ages 3-21 and functions as a member of the Team of Qualified Professionals, school based targeted teams, and crisis intervention teams.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

MSW in applicable field of social work from an accredited college or university with a LCSW or LCISW.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
  1. Conduct social histories and adaptive behavior measures for students and their families to complete comprehensive assessments which include observations, data collection, interpretation and analysis
  2. Prepare social histories and adaptive scale reports in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines
  3. Works directly with families completing social histories to obtain a better understanding of the family dynamics in order to improve academic achievement
  4. Participates in identifying at-risk students experiencing academic and behavioral difficulty, designing and implementing research based interventions, and plan progress monitoring components of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions through the RTI process
  5. Provide individual and group counseling services for students including social skills training and crisis intervention
  6. Provide individual or group counseling support to aid student's social and academic adjustment as it pertains to assisting students in accessing education
  7. Participate in planning and/or implementation of school or district level crisis response teams
  8. Lead teams in conducting functional behavioral assessments and corresponding behavior support plans
  9. Participate as a member and case manager of the Team of Qualified Professionals and the individualized education program (IEP) by interpreting evaluation findings, collaborating on the development of the IEP, diagnosing students' eligibility consistent with district, federal, and state policies, procedures and regulations
  10. Work closely with teachers and teams to enhance critical skills to interpret data, create intervention plans and make data-based determinations about the effectiveness of interventions
  11. Participate in the timely data input services for Medicaid billing, use the web-based IEP system, and participate in the time studies for administrative Medicaid claiming as scheduled
  12. Adhere to requirements, state and federal laws regarding students with disabilities, and professional ethics and standards of school social work
  13. Provides interventions in moments of emotional crisis for all students in the building
  14. Conducts risk assessments for suicidal and homicidal ideation
  15. Refers students in need to outside agencies and/or for emergency evaluations
  16. Works as part of a school team to promote positive social/emotional relationships and culture in the school
  17. Design and assist teams in implementing and monitoring behavior intervention plans for students and make data-based decisions regarding the effectiveness of the plan to meet the social/emotional needs of our students
  18. Confer and consult with teachers, staff, families and outside agencies about strategies to facilitate the social and affective needs of students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS
  • MSW in applicable field of social work from an accredited college or university with a LCSW or LCISW.
  • Ability to screen, evaluate, diagnose, counsel and support students, three to twenty-one years of age.
  • Ability to develop and implement appropriate goals and objectives for each individual student.
  • Good communication and human relations skills needed in order to implement consultative program with classroom teachers and parents.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a member of the Team of Qualified Professionals and other school teams to implement administrative policies and procedures.
  • Formulate concise clinical reports and maintain complete longitudinal records on each student served.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC-based computer applications, Microsoft Office applications, email, web applications, and industry specific technology.
  • You must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employment

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.
