This vacancy is the result of temporary funding through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). The duration of the funding means the position is temporary and may last for one, two, or three years. Hired candidates may be excessed or non-renewed from the position for the following school year.

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent, Teacher Leadership and Development

General Description & Goals:

The Director of Teacher Leadership and Innovation will oversee two of the Office of Teacher Leadership's (OTL) key programs, The Telescope Network, and the Teacher Leadership Fund. Through these programs and by building connections between them the Director will:
  1. Develop and strengthen systems for creating and sharing educator generated innovations across Boston Public Schools.
  2. Build and manage networks of educator leaders and innovators
  3. Establish dynamic leadership opportunities and career pathways for educators in Boston Public Schools.
Responsibilities:

Manage the Telescope Network: The Telescope Network creates opportunities for BPS educators to collaborate across the district. We improve learning experiences for all our students when we connect with peers, share our authentic challenges, and learn from each other.
  • Lead the Telescope Network Learning Hub Manager and the team of Instructional Coaches (Networkers) to drive instructional improvement efforts across Boston Public Schools using improvement science practices
  • Collaborate and communicate with Central Office and school-based leaders to ensure that Telescope Network's priorities and programs meet the needs of educators and align with system-wide priorities
Manage the Teacher Leadership Fund: The Teacher Leadership Fund empowers educator-led innovation to address authentic classroom, school, and district challenges in service of student learning and well-being.
  • Oversee the annual grantmaking cycle including call for proposals, application review, grant awards, and grantee support
  • Review and improve all aspects of the programs to increase equitable access to and impact of the program for educators and students
  • Establish and improve systems for sharing the work of grantee teams.
Stakeholder Outreach and Management : Collaborate with various district departments and outside partners
  • Manage advisory structures for teacher leadership programs to ensure the input of educator, administrator, student, and parent voice in the development of practices and programming
Research, Data, and Evaluation :
  • Establish and manage internal and external research partnerships including collaborating with Boston Public School Office of Data and Accountability
  • Establish a process for evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness and impact of Office of Teacher Leadership programming
  • Oversee and implement of reporting on OTL activities and programs using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
Qualifications - Required:
  • Masters Degree
  • Highly collaborative working style
  • Comfort with uncertainty and flexibility as projects develop
  • Five years or more of related experience, including:
  1. Teaching and leadership experience in K-12 public schools
  2. Leading large projects with diverse stakeholders
  3. Experience in education
  4. Grant and research project management
  5. Budget management
  6. Building or managing social or professional networks
  7. Excellent analytical skills
  • Experience presenting complex analyses to a wide variety of audiences in a variety of modalities (written, visual etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively and comfortably in a diverse, team oriented, fast paced environment within the department, across departments, and with outside agencies and organizations
Qualification-Preferred:
  • Master's degree in education or education management
  • Teaching experience in Boston Public Schools
  • Knowledge of improvement science principles and practices
  • 5 years of related data management experience
  • 3 years of project management experience
  • 2 years of grants management
  • Experience with budgets
  • Expertise in graphic presentation software
  • Expertise in database design and programming,
  • Experience writing and managing grants
  • Experience in website design
  • Knowledge of social networking theory and practice
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of educational assessment
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of adult learning

Terms : Managerial, D61. City of Boston Residency is Required.
