This position works with schools and families to develop a welcoming climate in the schools and assists with developing family engagement activities for the bilingual community.

- Participates In Instructional planning and professional development.
- Performs a wide variety of interpretation services.
- Serves as a liaison between the school, the student's family, and the community.
- Makes appointments for parents. Leads and coordinates family engagement programming for the bilingual community.
- Collaborates with school and district staff to develop family engagement programming.
- Collaborates and problem solves with staff working with the bilingual community.
- Makes visits to student homes to discuss academic achievement, social service needs, and district policy and procedure.
- Refers students and their families to community social service agencies.
- Attend family engagement activities at the school site or in the community.
- Professionally interact with students, staff, and public. Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours.
- Attend relevant professional development opportunities. Comply with all district policies and procedures.
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and in Spanish
- Available to work flexible hours, including some evenings.
- Ability to organize and oversee activities

- Ability to deal with students in a warm and confident manner
- Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations
- Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner

- Ability to use necessary equipment, machinery, and tools
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Knowledge of basic subject areas, such as spelling, writing, reading, and math
- Knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures
- Knowledge of child development concepts, developmentally appropriate curriculum and individualized learning processes for children, indicators of child abuse and neglect, and factors affecting low-income families
- Knowledge of physical or occupational disabilities, speech/language development, and/or vision instruction if applicable
- Skills in written and oral communications
- Skills in handling confidential matters
- Skills in operating a PC (personal computer) utilizing district adopted software
- Skills in learning and interpreting assignments, procedures, rules, and regulations Skills in encouraging and tutoring students
- Skills in communication in two languages (English, Spanish, etc.) if applicable
- Working knowledge of community organizations, community resources, and public services available for families.
- Demonstrated proficiency in office skills
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with parents, teachers, colleagues and administrators across MSD.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Washington State Driver License Type II and evidence of mobility
- Fluent in a language other than English
- Biliterate - Able to interpret/translate written documents
- Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
- Proof of Immunization (if born l /1/57 or later)
- 9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
- Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date
