PURPOSE OF JOB: Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a variety of situations using the appropriate sign language system to facilitate communication between individuals so that optimum learning can take place.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who are mainstreamed into regular education classes (academic, support).
  • Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students at school functions and extracurricular activities.
  • Interpret for Deaf and Hard of hearing students during psycho-educational and other evaluations by the District or contracted personnel.
  • Interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students/parents at placement or other educational related conferences/activities.
  • Interpret as assigned according to individual student or program needs.


  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma
    • Minimum of Certification Level III - Missouri Certification & Licensure

    Note: out of state certifications are subject to review/approval by District Administration and the Missouri Commission for the Deaf (MCD)

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Educational interpreting experience
    • Completion of Interpreter Training Program

    This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, lift objects of at least ten pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Length of work year: 10 month calendar Part-time (Not more than 25 Hours per week)
