Founded in 2004 and named for the first African-American woman to earn her Ph.D. in Mathematics, the award-winning E.L. Haynes Public Charter School serves nearly 1,200 students in grades Pre-K3 through 12th grade. E.L. Haynes operates two campuses in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington, DC, and offers a rigorous educational program designed to prepare students to succeed in the college of their choice.

About Our Academic Program

We provide a rigorous and engaging curriculum for students in grades Pre-K through 12. Our instructional program provides intensive learning experiences that deepen understanding at all grade levels so that every student is prepared to become kind and curious community members, lifelong learners, and leaders of social justice.

About The Position

The High School Receptionist provides essential support and administrative services in a fast-paced school environment. The person in this 12-month, full-time role is involved in a wide spectrum of tasks including welcoming people into the building, responding to inquiries, answering and directing incoming phone calls, and providing administrative support around student enrollment, attendance tracking, etc. Reporting to the High School Operations Manager, the receptionist works closely with other campus-based operations and instructional staff, families, and students and ensures exceptional customer service to the school community. Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish will ensure seamless communication with all members of the E.L. Haynes community.

You Will:
  • Greet visitors warmly, answer phones, respond to inquiries and accurately process messages;
  • Locate students when parents arrive for pick up;
  • Filter phone calls to appropriate staff members;
  • Interact extensively with the staff and community in a client-focused manner;
  • Perform administrative duties as required;
  • Provide brief interpretations in Spanish;
  • Support the attendance process by managing the intake and follow up for all absence notes;
  • Navigate the student information system to access needed information;
  • Support with the annual student enrollment process, including occasional hours outside of the regular tour of duty; and
  • Provide other assistance as needed to support school operations.
You Have:
  • Meticulous attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish;
  • Proven track record of being a strong team player; and
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination .
You Might Also Have:
  • Familiarity with DC charter school operations;
  • Experience with COVID-19 protocols and emergency management procedures;
  • Proficiency in another language besides English and Spanish; and
  • Experience working with students, families, and staff from culturally, demographically, and socially diverse backgrounds.
