Summary:

Responsible for facilitating learning and teaching in integrated, inclusive preschool classroom (ages three to five years). Duties include planning and implementing children's educational program; supporting and following through with children's IEP goals and accommodations; planning and facilitating small and large group instruction; performing daily administrative functions; directing preschool paraprofessionals; attending annual IEP staffings; attending Early Childhood Education staff development training; writing children's progress reports; communicating with staff and/or parents regarding child's progress; conducting parent conferences; tending to the personal needs of children including lifting, holding, diapering, feeding and toilet training; preparing class materials; performing clerical duties; preparing and disinfecting room and toys.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Daily 20% Provide instruction that is aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards, Colorado Early Learning, and Development Guidelines, and the district's plan of instruction. Develop and implement lessons that connect to a variety of content areas and use appropriate evidence-based, developmentally-appropriate instructional practices conducive to the growth and development of each child. - % Work collaboratively with stakeholders including families, paraeducators, colleagues, and special service providers for the benefit of students. Communicate with parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding student progress, family/student needs, and daily/monthly activities. Conduct parent conferences. Plan and share feedback on student progress with special service providers and/or other stakeholders significant adults. Daily 10% Direct paraeducators in the classroom by delegating work, training, and resolving problems Daily 10% Communicate with parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding student progress, family/student needs, and daily/monthly activities. Conduct parent conferences. Attend IEP meetings. Support and implement student's IEP goals and accommodations Daily 10% Participate in professional learning communities and staff meetings. Wkly 15% Use formal and informal methods to assess student learning, provide feedback, and use results to inform planning and instruction. Complete required data collection. Write student progress reports. Daily 20% Develop an environment that addresses the physical, social-emotional, cognitive, and health and safety domains that facilitate learning for students both in the classroom and on the playground. Provide a variety of stimulating materials for children to choose to use independently. Promote quality teacher-child interactions throughout the environment. Adhere to all health and child care licensing rules and regulations Daily 10% Closely supervise children in the school building, classroom and on the playground Daily 5% Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development required. Bachelors's Degree in one of the following areas: Child Development, Child Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Educational Leadership and administration, Elementary Education, Family, and Human Development, Family Studies, or Special Education, preferred. Large Center Director Qualifications letter issued by the department or a current early childhood professional credential level III or higher in version 3.0, preferred

EXPERIENCE:

The requirements for hours of experience directly supervising children depends on education level and major area of study. Must have three months of satisfactory experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children less than eight (8) years of age who are not related to the individual. Experience with typically developing children and children with special needs preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:

Ability to foster a predictable learning environment characterized by acceptable student behavior and efficient use of time in which each student has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and peers. Demonstrate an awareness of and respect for multiple aspects of diversity. Engage students as individuals, including those with diverse needs and interests, across a range of ability levels by adapting instruction for the benefit of all students. Good oral and written English communication, organizational, interpersonal, basic accounting, supervisory and math skills. Knowledge of Colorado Department of Social Services guidelines for a licensed day care center. Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate developmental activities. Ability to work with children of all abilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

Early Childhood Professional Credential Level II or higher in Version 3.0 of the Colorado Professional Development Information System (PDIS). Colorado Department of Human Services Large Center Director Qualification preferred. Fingerprint, background, and trails certification required at hire.
Compliance with all Colorado Department of Human Services rules regulating child care centers (less than 24 hours)

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Provides input on classroom preschool paraeducator(s) to the direct supervisor. Responsibilities may include assisting with interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Acts as a resource for paraeducators, parents, and students by ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for students and by providing information regarding students' well-being, both physical and social-emotional, and progress in all domains.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS:

Medium exposure to self to bruises and cuts due to classroom accidents, playground accidents or upset children; to disease due to caring for sick or injured students; and to repetitive motion injuries due to frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching or sitting/rising from the floor. Low exposure to self to fractured bones due to falling, to hernia due to lifting children and to loss of sight due to flying objects. May expose children to injuries on the playground or in the classroom if a person in this position fails to properly monitor children's safety. May also expose children to disease or further injury if a person in this position fails to properly handle or dispose of body fluids or administer proper and timely care to sick or injured children.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, run, climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
