Basalt High School is looking for one full time Evening Custodians. This position is year-round, full-time benefits eligible, and available immediately.

Starting pay range is $18.00 - $22.71 / hr - DOE

DEFINITION

To perform a full range of custodial duties related to the care, cleaning, and minor maintenance of assigned buildings and facilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direct supervision from the Custodial Supervisor. May occasionally receive supervision from the Custodial Director.

Will receive day to day direction from the Principal and Assistant Principal. May take direction from the Head Custodian as related to special events and school functions.

PRIMARY DUTIES--
The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.


Minimum Duties to be Done Daily

  • Clean, disinfect and deodorize restroom facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals and toilets, maintain fixtures and replenish supplies in restrooms.

  • Clean and sanitize all drinking fountains.

  • Clean, sanitize and deodorize cafeteria or other common areas where students eat meals.

  • Empty and clean waste receptacles.

  • Clean and maintain order in storage supply closets.

  • Identify and correct or fix any building safety hazards.

  • Secure facilities after working hours.


  • Other Essential Duties

  • May be assigned to other buildings in the absence of other custodians.

  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, max, strip and polish floors using a variety of chemicals, cleansers and equipment, vacuum and shampoo carpets and upholstered furniture.

  • Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, mirrors, walls and ceilings.

  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment and set up rooms for meetings and special functions.

  • Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.

  • Maintain custodial equipment in proper working conditions.

  • During the summer or other breaks throughout the year, deep clean buildings.

  • Assist in the snow removal from sidewalks or other areas surrounding the buildings.

  • Reports to work on time and accurately record time worked; may need to adjust work schedule due to weather conditions, emergencies or other work related projects; work overtime as needed

  • Perform related duties as assigned.


  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    Methods, procedures and techniques used in custodial work.

    Cleaning materials, supplies and equipment

    Safe work practices

    Ability to:

    Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment.

    Use a variety of custodial equipment, supplies and materials

    Understand and follow oral and written directions

    Read and understand cleaning chemical mixture and application directions and MSDS

    Perform simple and repetitive tasks

    Maintain security of buildings and facilities

    Work irregular hours

    Work independently in the absence of supervision

    Perform manual labor in unfavorable weather conditions.

    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    Experience and Training Guidelines:

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience:

    Some experience in cleaning and maintaining building interiors is desirable.

    Training:

    Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

    License or Certificate :

    Some positions will require the possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid drivers license.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Environmental Conditions:

    Field and indoor environment; may travel from site to site; exposure to potentially hazardous or cleaning chemicals, noise, dust, grease, orders, smoke, fumes, gases, inclement weather conditions and may work around heavy construction equipment.

    Physical Conditions:

    Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate and light lifting (up to 50 lbs); bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
