Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Director

The State College Area School District (SCASD) is searching for a leader to be our next Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. Located in State College, Pennsylvania, we are a nationally acclaimed district of 6,800 students within a vibrant education-focused community and with a budget of approximately $164 million. The State College area community includes Penn State, a large, diverse public university with a proud international community presence. The successful candidate must recognize that equity and inclusivity are foundational in preparing each student for lifelong success, our mission.

The District seeks a dynamic, energetic leader to serve as a strategic partner to the administrative team and work collaboratively to support students, parents, and employees to create and sustain a culture that embraces equity, inclusion, and belonging at all levels; recognizes and addresses bias (both explicit and implicit); and, highlights the importance of maintaining a culturally responsive environment.

Organizational, collaborative, and coaching skills are critical to success in this position. The District is searching for a candidate who demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and development and also possesses a variety of professional experiences.

Other essential responsibilities of the position include the ability to:
  1. Collaboratively lead the implementation of SCASD's Equity Action Plan and annual equity audit, including monitoring key performance indicators.
  2. Establish cultural proficiency among District staff through professional development, staff evaluation processes, and other support activities so that every adult exhibits the ability to understand cultural differences and effectively interact with a diverse population. Assist teachers in demonstrating culturally responsive pedagogy, assessment, teaching strategies and practice, and the capacity to effectively facilitate controversial issues and uncomfortable classroom discussions.
  3. Develop practices, policies, training programs, and related materials to create a culture that embraces equity and belonging at all levels, recognizes and addresses implicit bias in various processes and efforts (including the hiring process), and highlights the importance of maintaining a culturally responsive educational environment.
  4. Inform and enhance organizational success through the lens of equity, inclusion, and belonging by implementing best practices, appropriate evaluation processes, and measuring organizational benchmarks.
  5. Support the facilitation of restorative discussions with students, families, employees and community members regarding topics related to equity, inclusion, and belonging.


Successful administrative experience in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs to improve climate and culture is required, preferably in K-12 public schools. PDE Administrative Certification and a graduate degree in a related field are preferred.
