Job Description / Essential Elements:
CLASS TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT
DEFINITION: Under immediate supervision, perform work of routine difficulty in providing general instructional support services in various educational programs; and performs related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
• As directed, assists teachers in general supervision of students
• Records attendance
• Administers, scores and records the results of routine tests
• Assembles, distributes, collects and maintains instructional materials
• Assists students in interpreting assignments and following directions
• Assists students in attending to personal needs
• Performs related duties as assigned
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: A combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school.
Knowledge of:
• Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and basic arithmetic
• General classroom procedures, practices and equipment
*Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultrual and ethnic backgrounds of students
Skill in:
• Following oral and written directions
• Communicating clearly, both orally and in writing
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others
Demonstrating patience and compassion
Ability to:

This position provides instructional support in a variety of Adult Education classes to help students reach their personal, academic, or career goals in programs such as Adults with Disabilities, English as a Second Language, High School and Adult Basic Education, and/or Career Technical Education. The position requires ability to work with adults from many countries, cultures and languages. It also requires experience with cultural diversity, ability to follow teachers' instructions and lesson plans, and excellent communication skills. Good computer skills and bilingual English/Spanish desirable. Other related responsibilities and duties as assigned.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: To qualify for this position applicant must have a high school diploma and official transcripts of at least two years of college (48 units) or an AA degree or pass our proficiency exam (will accept CBEST in lieu of). Areas covered on the written exam are math, reading and writing. Please provide copies of your official transcripts or proof of CBEST along with application. Those candidates successful in the above areas will be invited to interview. All material to be reviewed by the screening committee must be submitted with the application.
