    STEM/MATH (K-12)

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The Education Administrator for School Support and Improvement for Math/STEM works under the supervision of the Executive Directors of Leadership Development to facilitate the implementation of Norwalk's K-12 Instructional Plan in the Strategic Operating Plan. This Education Administrator will be available to lead cycles of support for schools in specific areas of need in Mathematics and Science instruction and technology integration as requested by the school or identified as a result of the school's participation in the School Quality Review process or a supervisory visit.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Support schools in effectively implementing instruction and related activities in the areas of Mathematics and Science
    • Support schools in effectively planning and implementing cycles of support to improve teachers' practices in areas in need of improvement
    • Focus on working with schools to address identified grades, teachers and areas of need
    • Recommend curriculum adjustments, as needed, to ensure that all students have equal access to the curriculum
    • Build capacity of school leaders to identify and support the use of effective instruction their classrooms
    • Provide coaching and demonstration teaching for teachers, as necessary
    • Model direct, explicit systematic instruction, including effective teaching techniques
    • Provide resources and support for instructing diverse learners
    • Support the implementation of prescriptive intervention strategies (Tier 1) for all teachers
    • Support school's understanding and interpretation of assessment data, both formal and inform instructional decisions
    • Collaborate with building principals and data teams in the development of schoolwide plans to increase student achievement
    • Observe and evaluate staff in those instances where a second administrative assessment is needed
    • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
    • Promote good public relations
    • Coordinate all activities with Executive Directors of Leadership Development
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Directors of Leadership Development and/or Superintendent of Schools


    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Strong commitment to continuous improvement
    • Knowledge of effective coaching practices
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of effective instructional strategies and research-based best practices
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of a variety of assessment methods
    • Ability to work effectively with administrative and teaching colleagues
    • Ability to model and coach effective teaching practices
    • Demonstrates proficiency with technology and its application to instruction
    • Experience and knowledge of cycles of inquiry
    • Interest in facilitating professional growth
    • Excellent workshop presentation skills with the knowledge of adult learning styles
    • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Expertise in working with colleagues in areas of professional development, teacher teams, new teacher support and instructional planning
    • Available for afterschool, weekend and summer meetings and workshops
    • Effective active listening skills
    • Organizational and problem solving skills


    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Minimum of five (5) successful years of experience in teaching mathematics and/or science in K-12 public school education
    • Administrative certification or eligibility for certification (092) in the State of Connecticut
    • A Master's degree in Mathematics, Science, Curriculum or related field from an accredited institution
    • Demonstrated outstanding skills and knowledge in instructional practice and working with adult learners
    • Proven leadership skills
    • Spanish fluency is an asset
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or the Board of Education may find appropriate


    Days: Monday - Friday
    Work Year: 12 Months (260 Days)
    Salary: Per NASA Agreement
