General Description
Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS) is seeking individuals with a deep commitment to improving student achievement by providing remediation to struggling students in grades six through nine who are at risk of failing the Algebra I end-of-course test.. The Algebra Readiness Tutor will use the "push-in" and/or "pull-out" method of remediation to support identified students. The Algebra Readiness Tutor will also use the Virginia Standards of Learning data along with but not limited to NWEA Map, SGA, and Benchmark data to provide targeted, research-based strategies to improve reading skills of identified students. The Algebra Readiness Tutor interventionist will be responsible for collecting and analyzing these data sources to determine if intervention strategies are improving academic outcomes for students. The Algebra Readiness Tutor will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, Title I school-based teachers and district level staff to develop and plan remediation sessions aligned to state standards and student needs.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree
It is desirable to have someone with teaching experience or mathematical course work, but this is not a requirement.
Strong math skills and a good understanding of multiple math components, such as algebra, problem solving, number sense, computation, and representations.
Such other qualifications as deemed appropriate and acceptable by the School Board.

"The applicant shall provide a transcript that specifies graduation from an accredited college or university.
"Credentials / Course work shall include, at a minimum, strong mathematical knowledge.

Essential Job Functions

"Gathers, organizes, and interprets math SOL data and other assessment data for identified students;
"Utilizes best practice instructional strategies and research-based intervention curriculum materials provided by the Algebra Readiness Initiative (ARI) to meet the learning needs of identified students;
"Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of Standards of Learning (SOL) for math and school division curricular requirements;
"Selects appropriate instructional materials to meet student needs;
"Analyzes existing student achievement data and administers student assessments and monitoring instruments as needed to aid in progress monitoring of identified students;
"Maintains accurate student records and student progress data reports as required by the division ARI contact and VDOE policy;
"Attends professional development / training opportunities provided by school level Title I and Division Math Coach;
"Works in a collegial and collaborative manner with school personnel;
"Promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy and models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions with co-workers, customers and clients;
"Follows district and state guidelines and policies.
"Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

"The Algebra Readiness Tutor performs complex professional work that includes planning, coordinating, organizing and analyzing assessment data to provide "push-in" and/or "pull-out" research-based interventions in the area of math for identified students.
"Assessment data to be used to identify students should include but not limited to SOL, NWEA Map, SGA, Division Benchmark, diagnostic and all other available school and district data.
"Work is performed under the general supervision of the building Principal and Division Math Coach.
