SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plan, execute, and direct all aspects of the District's K-12 Literacy Framework including curriculum, instruction, assessment, content integration, and professional development to support all schools; manages district level literacy projects and collaborates closely with other District Program Facilitators and district leadership to advance literacy achievement for all MPS students.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implements and directs the District's K-12 Literacy Framework.
  • Develops, coordinates and delivers professional development and related services to content teachers, principals, and other school and district staff.
  • Develops and provides ongoing support of the MTSS model with all stakeholders.
  • Manages staff, develops priorities, and assigns tasks and projects; develops staff skills, evaluates performance, and trains staff on Literacy programs, policies and strategies; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve schedules, priorities, workload, critical concerns and technical issues; assures that appropriate services are provided, and goals are defined and achieved.
  • Manages budgets and expenditures, according to district policies and state laws.
  • Builds capacity with school leadership teams and teachers across content areas to incorporate proven instructional practices to promote high levels of literacy among all student groups and to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning at the site.
  • Develops the implementation plan of the Birth to Adult Literacy Framework, in addition to identifying progress monitoring tools to measure the depth and quality of the implementation.
  • Implements practices and strategies that reduce/eliminate racial disparities in student outcome and course enrollments.
  • Leads process of creating/adopting instructional materials which support standards-based teaching and learning and integration of literacy and content.
  • Supports implementation of MPS literacy instruction, including instructional models which ensure integration of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing and exchanging ideas.
  • E nsures alignment of Literacy curricula, instructional practices, and assessments to the Minnesota Academic Standards.
  • Coordinates with community partner organizations involved with the K-12 Literacy programs on behalf of MPS.
  • Designs, implements, and monitors systems and processes for reporting to families on students' academic progress in literacy.
  • Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; act in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor's Degree in Education, or related field; AND five (5) years of professional teaching or educational leadership experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in two or more of the following:
    • K-6 Elementary Education
    • Elementary and/or Secondary Reading
    • Secondary English Language Arts (5-8 or 7-12) or secondary Communication Arts/Literature
  • Advanced degree in education or educational leadership (preferred but not required).
  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience with evidence of culturally responsive pedagogy teaching culturally, linguistically, ethnically diverse students.
  • Leadership experience working with teachers to support curriculum, instruction, professional development and/or assessments

Knowledge of:

  • Minneapolis Public Schools policies and practices.
  • Current educational research, instructional strategies, best practices and national programs in education.
  • Principles and techniques for project management and organizational development.
  • Techniques and practices for efficient and cost effective management of resources.
  • Principles of record keeping and records.
  • Computer software applications as related to duties.

Bargaining Unit: MAAS l Grade: 70 l Salary Range: From $90,134 - $112,565 per year l FLSA Status: Exempt

The salary range is provided by the collective bargaining agreement associated with this position. Actual pay will be based on selected candidates' experience.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver's License may be required.

Valid State of Minnesota teaching license required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
