Description

Under the general direction of the Building Principal, provides supervision and administrative leadership, and knowledge of current curriculum development and instructional techniques to assist the principal in the promoting of the educational development of each student.

Responsibilities

-To assume all duties normally carried out by the principal in his/her absence when requested by the superintendent.

-To assist the principal and, where appropriate, Program Directors, in the planning, execution, and evaluation of curriculum research and development.

-To assist the principal in the supervision of professional staff and support in the performance of their academic and/or operational responsibilities and in the annual evaluation of their professional growth.

-To assist the principal in the programming of teacher and pupil schedules.

-To assist the principal in the general supervision of the student body.

-To handle routine matters of discipline and to communicate with teachers and parents whenever necessary.

-To adhere to the General Laws relating to education of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

-To assist the principal in the preparation of the annual budget request and special projects throughout the year.

-To oversee the distribution of supplies and equipment and to maintain inventories of same.

-To assist the principal in the building supervision and maintenance.

-To perform any other duties as may be assigned by the principal.

Qualifications

-Massachusetts certification as a middle school principal.

-Master's degree. Evidence of study beyond Master's degree preferred.

-Substantial experience as a schoolteacher and administrator. Demonstrated success in supervision preferred.

-Effective interpersonal and leadership skills; experience facilitating communication between divergent groups and in group decision making.

-Demonstrated success in the development, evaluation and implementation of school curriculum and instruction.

-Effective administrative and management skills.

-Demonstrated skill in speaking and writing, including the effective utilization of computers, technology, and information management tools.

-Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
