Description:
Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 is seeking applicants to fulfill part-time special education aide positions serving in Early Intervention (ages 3-5) classrooms. Aides in these positions work a maximum of 28 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:30 am and 3:15 pm, and Friday morning (if/where applicable).
Part-time aides are compensated at $10.48/hour for the first fifteen days, then compensated at $13.08/hour as regular, part-time.

Part-time aides follow an Early Intervention calendar offering extended breaks during major holidays and summer months. There is also some, limited, paid leave available.

Job Summary:
To assist and support early intervention teachers in the education and support of young learners with disabilities and in fulfilling the program needs and objectives of the Intermediate Unit.

The duties of a teacher aide may be limited to simple routine tasks or may be complex and multi-dimensional depending upon the location and type of disability of the learners served. The duties may include but are not restricted to instruction and/or non-instructional activities.

Qualifications:
  1. A high school diploma or GED is required.
  2. Must possess current, valid Act 34, Act 114, and Act 151 clearances as well as completed and acceptable Act 168 background checks.
  3. Must become Qualified within the established timelines and maintain Qualified status by completing training hours (20 hours, annually) each school year as required by PA Chapter 14.
  4. Aides must be able to follow written and oral instructions and be able to perform basic computer tasks. Must have a valid PA driver's license


Working Conditions:
In the course of performing the duties and functions of a Teacher Aide the holder of the position will be required to:
  1. Frequently reach above and below the waist
  2. Stand for long periods of time during the workday
  3. Move/lift and/or assist in moving/lifting items/objects and/or learners (ages ranging from 3-21) up to 40 lbs.
  4. Frequently walk varying distances inside/outside the school and community setting
  5. Occasionally sit
  6. Frequently bend, squat/stoop and grasp
  7. Participate in CPR, First Aid, and safe crisis management and de-escalation, as required
Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks; and to think, interpret, analyze and problem solve. Must be able to converse and interact with individuals with diverse levels of education and abilities.

Work Environment:
School, non-school, and community environments. Travel in school buses, vans or cars may be required.
