Position: CTE Computer Science (CS) Teacher

The Opportunity:
The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School seeks a CTE Computer Science (CS) Teacher, Grades 9-12, to join our caring and innovative community. This is a 10-month, school-year teaching working with a diverse student population in a comprehensive 9-12 urban school setting. The CTE Computer Science (CS) Teacher reports to and is supervised by the Executive Director, Rindge School of Technical Arts, which is the Career & Technical Education (CTE) department at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School. The CTE CS teacher, in collaboration with colleagues in both RSTA and the CRLS Math Department, is responsible for developing, refining, modifying, and implementing courses based upon the Mass. DESE CVTE Frameworks for Computer Programming & Web Design, and AP CS Principles, and involves teaching all aspects of the computer technology industry, including safety, technical skills, related academic subjects, employability, management, and the underlying principles of technology.

The teacher will set high expectations for all students and utilize scaffolding and differentiation to support all students. The teacher will have an appreciation for and awareness of the unique developmental needs of young people in this age band. As a professional, the teacher will display a collegial spirit that supports and enhances continual professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of our school community. Moreover, the teacher will be fully committed to continuously learning, improving, reflecting, and working together to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.

Key Responsibilities :

• Collaborate with all instructional team members, including but not limited to, special educators, instructional coaches, paraprofessionals, interventionists, and other support personnel.
• Assess students regularly and refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment and data and student needs.
• Integrate social learning into the classroom and work to foster a safe, caring, and active learning community.
• Partner with families and include them in the students' learning and development as well as encourage families to further the mission of the school.
• Build on established partnerships with surrounding community institutions and organizations.
• Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will pursue a dignified next step.
• Teach a curriculum based upon the Computer programming Frameworks & which is designed to prepare students in all aspects of computer science and is approved by the RSTA Executive Director.
• Work independently and with colleagues to develop a curriculum based on current Mass. DESE CVTE Frameworks for Computer Programming & Web Design and/or Information Support Services & Networking as well as other Computer Science related courses including AP CSP.
• Effectively collaborate with program and department colleagues to insure the delivery of high-quality curriculum and instruction.
• Implement the curriculum to ensure that students receive appropriate career & technical education and the opportunities to meet the requirements necessary to further their education in this field and to qualify for employment opportunities in the Computer Science and/or Information Technology industry.
• Plan and implement appropriate upgrades to CS equipment to reflect industry trends/standards.
• Insure instruction in and compliance with all health and safety regulations.
• Work with an active Program Advisory Committee that meets a minimum of twice annually.
• Maintain a program of study for computer science that meets all requirements of Chapter 74 regulations.
• Perform all other essential duties as assigned by the RSTA Executive Director.

Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Computer Science Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

• Must possess a thorough knowledge of how to teach the competencies and standards of the Mass. DESE CVTE Frameworks for Computer Programming & Web Design as well as AP CS Principles.
• Enthusiasm for technology and its uses in order to recruit and retain students in this program.
• A minimum of four (4) years' successful experience in the computer science and/or successful experience teaching CS/IT at the high school or college level.
• Hold or be eligible for the Massachusetts DESE CVTE License as a Programming & Web Design Teacher (required).
• Minimum of Bachelor's degree required.
