JOB DESCRIPTION

This role is an exciting opportunity to serve as a leader within a diverse and dynamic team committed to the audacious task of transforming public education in Providence Public Schools. By any measure, and over many years, the Providence Public School District (PPSD) has failed to deliver on its most fundamental obligation: fair and equitable access to a rigorous education for all children. The time for change is now and the district is in the process of a game-changing transformation led by a newly appointed State Turnaround Superintendent, in coordination with the Rhode Island Department of Education and with the support of the larger Providence community.

The Deputy Director of Facilities will report to the Director of Facilities and Capital Planning This teammate will be responsible for supporting a portfolio (approx. 20 physical buildings) of schools within the district, serve as the main point of contact for school principals on all facility maintenance related activities, and serve as the subject matter expert for designated trades/areas. In addition, this role will oversee and manage district wide facility initiatives assigned by the Director of Facilities and Capital Planning. Examples of these include but are not limited to lighting projects, school building committees, revolving fund projects, capital projects related to security, fire and HVAC, etc.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • A Bachelor's degree is required
  • 5-7 years of experience in Facilities Management, Procurement, contracts, vendor management
  • LEED AP, CEM or PE
  • Subject matter expert in a related trade or area within facilities management (HVAC, Life Safety systems, construction trades, etc.)
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
  • Schedules and supervises facilities team engaged in building and grounds upkeep and repair; responsible for safety and security, electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and ventilation services
  • Directs, supervises, and evaluates facilities staff (Plant Maintenance Coordinators); Project Managers and ensures staff receives training related to specific job tasks and responsibilities
  • Overseeing all aspects associated with building maintenance, space reconfiguration and office expansion
  • Develops, implements, and supervises preventative maintenance and renovation programs for buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical, utility, and safety and security systems
  • Prepares specifications for facility projects; estimates costs of equipment, materials, labor, and supplies; prepares bid specifications for projects, equipment, and contracted services; oversees site and building projects performed by outside contractors
  • Leading safety and security technology efforts, command center to ensure we are constantly providing a safe workplace for our team members
  • Subject matter expert on centralized systems such as integrated security, fire, HVAC systems for implementation and construction projects and coordinates with other PPSD staff
  • Developing and managing communication channels, to ensure cohesive communications across all sites
  • Ability to partner closely with support teams (Finance, HR)
  • Directs, schedules, and oversees external contractors (electricians, plumbers, excavators, roofers, painters, landscapers, etc.)
  • Other duties as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS
  • Multi-site facilities management required; management of educational facilities preferred Experience directly managing full range of workplace facility services through reconfiguration and expansion
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to achieve goals through influencing, partnering and developing relationships with leadership and other key stakeholders across the business
  • Strong analytical ability and experience utilizing Excel and other MS Office tools
  • Experienced with understanding job specifications and drawings
  • Thrive in a deadline driven industry
  • Bilingual Preferred
