This position is 6.5 hours per day, 9 months per year. Pay is spread over 12 months.

LOCATION: Neely-O'Brien is located in the Kent valley. Our school serves Kindergarten through sixth grade students who are rich in ethnic and cultural diversity. Our families are highly mobile and come from varying economic and academic backgrounds. The staff at Neely-O'Brien is committed to providing a positive learning environment which capitalizes on the diverse nature of our population and cultivates high academic achievement through our rich curriculum and intentional interventions that meet students at their current levels. We strive to promote each child's academic, emotional, social and physical development. We focus on the basic skills, including opportunities for enrichment and remediation. We take pride in our music and physical education programs.

All Paraeducator applicants are required to show proof of 72 college level credits, an AA degree (or higher), or passed the Para Professional Assessment. If an applicant is in need of testing, they can still apply, and if they are the finalist candidate they will need to pass the Para Professional before being hired into the role.
Upon hire, new paraeducators will be required to complete state required training offered through our KSD Professional Development Team.

ASSIGNMENT: This LAP/Title 1 grant funded paraeducator position, will, under the supervision of certificated staff, support students in math and literacy. This paraeducator will work with a variety of ages/grades, and in a variety of instructional settings. The paraeducator's duties may include: small group instruction, one-on-one instruction, preparing materials for a lesson, correcting papers, teaming with other staff. Position may require staff to provide individual student support as determined by the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is part of the KAP bargaining unit working with elementary students in the Title and LAP programs. Candidate must have paraeducator skills in monitoring achievement progress in small group settings; KSD trained to provide varied reading and math interventions; and a commitment to communicating collaboratively with teacher colleagues and with paraeducator peers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:
  1. AA degree or 72 quarter-hour college credits. Transcripts must on file to be considered for an interview. Completion of the ETS ParaPro Assessment test with a score of 461 or higher will be accepted in lieu of college credits. Proof of score must be submitted as part of your application.
  2. Completion of state required training upon hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Previous experience with Title and LAP programs
  2. Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community
  3. Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics
  4. Previous experience in working with elementary students
  5. Candidate that is a team player, positive, with good communication skills
  6. Must have strong interpersonal skills working with a team of adults
  7. Candidate needs to be highly flexible and able to establish rapport with staff and elementary children of all ages
