  • Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is seeking dynamic school leaders who are committed to educating today's students to succeed in tomorrow's world. BCPS is the sixth largest public school system in the United States, the second largest in the state of Florida and the largest fully accredited K-12 and adult school district in the nation. BCPS has over 260,000 students and approximately 175,000 adult students in 229 schools and education centers and 103 charter schools.

    Sawgrass Springs Middle School is located in Coral Springs, Florida. Coral Springs is located in the west corner of Broward County approximately 20 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale. The population of the city is close to 121,000 people, and the demographics of the city are 51% white, 18% black, 23% Hispanic, and 8% other. Sawgrass Springs Middle School opened in 1996. The school has an administrative team that consists of the principal, three assistant principals, three guidance counselors, ESE Specialist and a Literacy Coach. Our instructional staff consists of 65 certified teachers who are highly qualified by state's definition. Of the 65 teachers, all of them hold a bachelor's degree and 46% possess advanced degrees. The support staff includes an office manager, registrar, guidance data specialist, ESE secretary, front desk secretary, data entry clerk, 4 paraprofessionals, and 6 custodians. Currently, the total enrollment is 1172 students in grades 6-8. Our student population is made up of 38% White, 28% Black, 27% Hispanic and 7% other. Approximately 52% of Sawgrass Springs Middle School students qualify for free or reduced meals. Our exceptional education population is 137 and we have 2 support facilitators and an ESE Specialist. Sawgrass Springs Middle School who has been a Title 1 school with nearly 52% of our students on free and reduced lunch. The number of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch has risen over the last three years. We have also seen growth in our ESOL population. Sawgrass Springs Middle has a Cambridge International program has proven to prepare students for life after high school through its curriculum that is both rigorous and recognized internationally. Cambridge learners become confident, responsible, reflective innovative, and engaged. Cambridge qualifications open doors for learners to be accepted at the word's best universities. They are recognized by leading universities and employers around the world as evidence of academic ability. Elective classes include: Art I (fondly known as Swamp Art I at SSMS) is a class designed to provide experiences necessary to produce a variety of exciting and interesting artwork. Swamp Art II gets students ready for their exploration of art in high school. BAND All Band classes are open to all grade levels. Band 1 - Beginning Band This class is for students with no band/music experience. Band 2 - Concert Band This class is for students with intermediate band experience (1 year or more). Jazz Band Jazz Band is a voluntary club that meets once a week after school. Students in Jazz Band will learn the basics of jazz music performance principles, and will perform music in a variety of styles (swing, rock, pop, funk, Latin, etc.) CHORUS- In chorus, students will learn how to sing with proper technique and emotion. COMPUTER SCIENCE The Computer Science (CS) program at Sawgrass Springs Middle is a 3-year program which will prepare students to get a strong understanding of software programming for a strong technical foundation for any future career path. Each year, students will take a professional Certification Exam sanctioned by the District and the Florida Department of Education. CULINARY ARTS Culinary- This course features training in a wide variety of kitchen skills. Culinary Arts will provide you useful and practical training that will last a lifetime. Exploration of Robotics Technology Exploration of Robotics Technology- The purpose of this course is to give students an opportunity to explore robotics technology and its associated careers.
    • ECO ADVENTURES: Eco-Adventures I Eco-Adventures is an environmental elective providing opportunities for learning and discovery about current and relative environmental concerns impacting our community. LIFE SKILLS Life Skills is designed to increase student knowledge and skills necessary for everyday living. The course emphasizes goal setting, decision making and problem solving, communication, financial literacy, healthy lifestyles and relationships, nutrition, personal safety, citizenship and consumerism.
    • PEER COUNSELING: Peer counseling is designed to develop and enhance the health, safety and well-being of our students by focusing on peer education through a comprehensive program and curriculum that encompasses social and emotional skills and awareness, peer mediation, academic opportunity, and student service.
    • PHYSICAL EDUCATION Physical Education classes are designed to practice and develop skills in activities that will help students maintain fitness throughout their life.
    • SPANISH Spanish 1 - The student will develop communicative skills in all 3 modes of communication (interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational) and cross-cultural understanding.
    • Spanish 2 - The cultural survey of the Spanish-speaking people is continued.
    • SPEECH AND DEBATE Speech and Debate imbues in a student's self-confidence, and hones reasoning and analysis skills.
    • HIGH SCHOOL HONORS COURSE TV PRODUCTION The Art of Movie Making at SSMS. Students serve as the information communications/school spirit hub for the entire school community.
    • THEATER/DRAMA We develop character in more ways than one. We learn how to respect ourselves and others on and off the stage.
    • YEARBOOK/DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY ELECTIVE Students will learn about photography, design, marketing and journalism.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Hold or be eligible for certification as a school principal or in educational leadership or administration/supervision in the State of Florida. Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum of five (5) years of successful public school experience. Three (3) of the five (5) years shall be experience as a principal or assistant principal. Applicants who do not have principal experience must be a participant in, or have completed, Broward's Principal Preparation Program or a similar leadership training program in another district/state. Candidates must be rated at a competent/ professional level on all sections of the interview in order to be considered as a qualified candidate to move forward for consideration.

    Compensation:

    Current SBBC Principals will remain on current salary schedule. Newly hired and newly appointed employees will be placed on the Pay for Performance Salary Schedule.

    Pay for Performance Salary Schedule Range: $113,000 - $137,000
    Grandfathered Salary Schedule Range: $115,471 - $134,610
