Position Summary:

The lab manager will be responsible for the overall management and success of the students while they are in the computer labs. They will manage a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The lab manager fosters a safe learning environment for all students and follows guidelines for addressing/reporting issues and incidents. The lab manager will be responsible for tracking several data points including but not limited to credit recovery, attendance, ISP compliance, and student schedules. The position operates with general direction from the school leadership team and functions as an integral part of the Ombudsman Chicago team in supporting and implementing Ombudsman and Chancelight initiatives. The lab manager supports the school leadership in decisions regarding the operation of the center and is an active and productive member of the site team

Position Details:
  • Prepare and maintain computer labs for safe and efficient operation.
  • Create a lab atmosphere in which students feel safe and welcomed.
  • Independently instruct and monitor students in the use of computers and platforms to ensure fidelity of instructions and student performance/evaluation.
  • Diagnoses, prescribes, treats, and evaluates students behavior on an individual and on-going basis.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students in accordance with specific timelines.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development including credit recovery spreadsheets, Podio Gradebook, attendance, and ISP data. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, ChanceLight, Ombudsman, and local district policies. Prepare required reports on student progress, achievement, and activities.
  • Manage student behavior in the labs by upholding the Ombudsman philosophy and policies, and apply appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Accurately assign appropriate classes to students in the various academic platforms.
  • Support students, counsel students with academic issues and provide encouragement to students.
  • Participate in center meetings, and student/parent meetings as requested.
  • Regularly communicate necessary information to students, team members, supervisors, and parents regarding students' needs and academic progress.
  • Participate in the assurance and accreditation process to ensure that the site passes or meets performance plans.
  • Participate in all school and district professional development days.
  • Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff for the good of the center
  • Operates with general direction from the Principal and Lead Teacher and functions as an integral part of the Ombudsman team. Supports the Principal in decisions regarding the operation of the center. Works with students to motivate them toward success. Refers to the Principal and/or Lead Teacher for matters beyond the designated scope of responsibility of the position.
