$1000 on first check

$2,000 after the 1 st 3 months after hire

The orientation specialist delivers the defined orientation curriculum to all new students and parents. This role facilitates a successful transition for all students into the program with the goal of improved academic performance, retention and graduation performance improvement.

Requirements

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the principal, the Orientation Teacher

  • Organizes and directs the new student orientation process in an environment that supports the school's mission and goals with parents and students to acclimate them to school policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Provides students with guidance so they understand the Student Code of Conduct and the school's policies and procedures.
  • Tracks each orientation "cohort" for ten weeks through attendance, academic performance and behavior monitoring.
  • Provides weekly updates on cohort retention to the Principal and others.
  • Meet with students weekly, in group or individually as needed.
  • Obtain regular feedback from each student's Advisory Teacher.
  • Coordinate with others to ensure students receive necessary services and supports.
  • Communicate frequently with classroom and support staff in support of student success.
  • Assists in all initiatives to ensure school meets defined FTE enrollment, attendance, retention, and performance metric goals.
  • Collaborates effectively and professionally with peers to develop, plan, and implement best educational practices based upon the individual academic needs of the students.
  • Participates in professional development courses or activities to maintain appropriate certification or credentials based on position.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Re-engagement of students who have withdrawn in the last 45 days.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles of secondary education.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional theory.
  • Knowledge, skills and ability to analyze and use data to drive program improvement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.


JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Previous high school teaching experience or experience working with at risk youth in an educational setting
  • Previous experience in high school guidance strongly preferred.
  • Teacher certification preferred
  • Previous experience and/or the ability to work with overage and at-risk youth
  • Flexibility to work in the evening and on occasionally on the weekend to accommodate working parents.
