Job Title: Elementary School Secretary - General (10 Month Secretary) .80 FTE

Reports to: Principal - Elementary

GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for providing support to the School Secretary - Lead and Principal with specific responsibilities for performing clerical functions related to supporting the instructional program. Assists with accomodating IQ testing (see hours for position noted below)

This positions hours are during: 10:00 - 6:30pm and may include some Saturdays from 8:30-5pm.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist teachers, students, and administrators identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.

Maintain materials ensuring the availability of materials in good condition when required.

Receive and greet visitors, interact professionally and courteously, providing exceptional service.

Ability to communicate effectively with staff, parents, students, and patrons of the district.

Proficient in the operation of office equipment.

Manage telephone systems, answering, screening, transferring, and responding to calls and inquires.

Coordinate events and meetings maintaining facility calendars, event pages, etc.

Maintain work area in good order with needed materials, information, and resource information for visitors.

Maintain current facility and district information (e.g. use schedules, calendars, directories, emergency contact, etc.) providing reference information.

Support and enforce building safety procedures for the work area.

Support the operations of the facility or department as directed by the supervisor.

Perform general clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, faxing, data entry, filing, mail, etc.).

Provide support for assigned administrative personnel.

Perform other duties as assigned ensuring the efficient and effective function of the work unit.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or its equivalent.

Minimum of two (2) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.

Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include library practices, terminology and procedures; age appropriate literature; computer and Internet operations; and concepts of grammar and punctuation.

Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Ability to analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.

The work is medium work that requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.

Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
